Chevalier shows the way as he collects round 2 of the Lucas Oil Shoot-Out Sportsman Series.
Batavia, NY—June 16, 2007--By: Chris Rhynold
Markdale Ontario native Mark Dixon would lead the 28 car field to the green for the 35 lap feature. Tom Flannigan would waste no time taking the top spot from Mark Dixon. Greg Panute and Chad Chevalier would battle or the 3rd spot and Chevalier would take the spot and begin to work on Dixon. Yellow would fly for a spun out Mark DiIlario on lap 5. Flannigan would again control the race, but would only complete one lap before yellow would fly again when John Baker lost the handle collecting a couple of cars.
Again, the yellow would come out one lap later when Bill Bleich clicked wheels with B.J. Willard sending him into a spin on the front stretch. On the restart Chad Chevalier would launch to the second spot and begin to chase down the leader Tom Flannigan. Yellow would hit the speedway on lap 10 when Rob Knapp looped in turn 1. Flannigan and Chevalier would check out on the restart with Mark Dixon holding off Genesee Speedway regular Stubby Pangrazio. Pangrazio would complete the pass for 3rd on lap 14. Chevalier was beginning to close in on Flannigan when the caution would fly on lap 18 when Rob Knapp lost the handle again in turn 1. On lap 19 Chevalier drove to the high side to make the move on Flannigan and take the top spot with Pangrazio pressuring Flannigan for the runner up spot. Greg Panunte and Don Spatorico would start to hound Mark Dixon for the 4th spot and both would eventually make the pass on Dixon.
Rob Pratt would spin on lap 25 in the borrowed Don Ogden owned machine. Chevalier would control the race on the next restart, but yellow would hit the speedway again when Rob Knapp spun in turn 4. Knapp would be forced to leave the speedway after being involved in his third caution of the evening. Spatorico would pull a last lap power move, sending him to the 2nd position but time had pretty much run out as Chevalier would check out on the field and go on to dominate the closing laps and go on to collect his first Lucas Oil Sportsman Shoot-Out race of the season.
