ADAMS CHARGES FROM MID PACK TO WIN WISSOTA MW MODIFIEDS

By Bill Nelson

June 16, 2007

Spring Valley MN

A overnight and early morning shower set up hit the Deer Creek Speedway on this Saturday but the crew got out and prepared the track for another great night of racing action. With the temp in the low 90’s and high humidity and coming off a highly successful Featherlite Gopher 50 the fans and drivers poured into the speedway for Images night at the speedway.

First up on the track for their feature racing action was the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds with Joel Alberts and Ron Houdek battling for the lead early on. Behind them Jimmie Arnold and Mike Paulson were racing for second. A caution while completing lap two saw Jerry Young spin in turn four and receiving heavy contact from Sam Siskow who ran out of room, ending both their nights. On the restart Houdek took the lead with Alberts moving into second while Arnold, Paulson and Bryan Hernandez raced for third three wide around the speedway. With fifteen to go Arnold took over third while Chris Adams was charging up from his fifteenth starting spot to race with Hernandez for fourth. With six down Alberts pushed up in two allowing Arnold to take over second, Adams and Hernandez were still side by side for fourth.

Another caution flew with ten to go with Houdek still leading, Arnold in second and Adams now racing with Alberts and Hernandez for third. Arnold starting working the low side of the track and while Hernandez got the top side moving the two moved alongside of Houdek in the middle of the speedway. They cleared Houdek and moved into their own race for the lead with eight to go and Adams worked quickly into third. Arnold slipped back again as Houdek moved low on the track and back into the lead with Adams following him through. Adams and Houdek now raced side by side for the lead while Arnold and Hernandez tried to settle the third spot. Seven laps left and Adams now took the lead as Houdek quickly dropped back to fifth. Hernandez moved into second after racing Arnold with five to go. Kenny Wytaske moved around Houdek and was working on Arnold with two to go. On the last lap coming out of four Hernandez moved low to get under Adams but lost traction allowing Arnold into second, Wytaske into third and Houdek into fourth as he dropped back to fifth. Adams held on for the win.

A special thanks to Tim’s Repair and Towing for coming on as the title sponsor of the WISSOTA Street Stocks for the remainder of the 2007 racing season. AJ Zvorak took the point in the feature event with Scot Nelson quickly working into second on lap one. On a restart on the second lap Nelson drove in low in one and exiting two touched the machine of Zvorak with Zvorak ending up on his passenger side door with a light roll. On the ensuing restart Steve Eischens took control of the field with Ernie Kramer in second. Chuck Nerland and Scott Olson raced for third for the next four laps until Nathan Finley moved past them both into third and on the next lap cleared Kramer for second. Eleven to go and Nerland moved into third as Nelson now was back in the top five. Finley moved up to race Eischens for the lead while Nelson worked into third. Seven to go Eischens regained the lead, with Finley taking it back the next lap. The two sea-sawed the lead for the next three laps until Finley took control and the win. At the tech scale Finley was light moving Eischens up for the win, Nelson second and Kramer third.

A quick blading of the track surface took place before the start of the US Army WISSOTA Super Stock feature event and it made for the perfect track conditions during their feature. Brian Fetting took the early lead with three wide racing for the next three rows for three laps. Josh Bartel took over the second spot with Ryan Siegle into the third spot. Dustin Nelson moved up to battle with Siegle for the third spot and gained the position with fifteen to go. Twelve to go saw Nelson move alongside of Bartel and take over the second spot. By ten to go Fetting had cruised out to a straightaway lead over Nelson while the best race was between Siegle and Bartel for third. A spin with four to go was not what Fetting was looking for erasing his huge lead but Fetting held up the point on the restart while Cole Queensland shot between Bartel and Siegle to take over third. Fetting kept strong up front and took home his first feature win since 1999 with Nelson second and Queensland third. Fetting’s win made it eight different WISSOTA Super Stock feature winners in eight night’s of racing action.

Mike PRochnow and Nate Wasmund battled early for the lead in the Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model division. Behind them, Paul Novotny, Tony Bloom and Matt Madsen were racing three wide for third. Prochnow took control of the event with a lap 4 caution flag. Wasmund settled into second and Bloom in third as Keith Foss and Nick Herrick moved up to keep company with Novotny. Foss was running the low side of the speedway and moved into third with five down. On the next lap Bloom succumbed to the pressure of Herrick as he took over the fourth spot. Foss continued his charge forward moving past Wasmund at the same time to take over second. With eight completed in the twenty five lap race Herrick moved under Wasmund for third. The caution flew again with twelve to go. Prochnow led on the restart for four laps until Foss came charging up hard on the bottom. Foss made the pass stick and then a caution flew negating his pass. On the restart Herrick moved to the top of the track and entering turn one moved around Foss into second and out of turn two the momentum moved him past Prochnow to take the lead and ultimately the win. Prochnow held on for second followed by Foss.

Mike Sorensen led lap one of the EZ Fabricating USRA Modifieds with Brad Waits in second. A caution on lap two reset the field and gave Bob Timm a chance to moved under Waits as the two drivers actually caught the leader as they put Sorensen in the middle of the modified sandwhich. Sorensen held on for the lead with Timm moving into second. Another early restart with four down saw Timm move power down low and alongside of Sorensen for the lead. Timm took over the spot and on the next lap Todd Scharkey suddenly slowed with a flat right front causing the field to bunch up behind the fifth running machine. Timm held the point while Sorensen had his hands full of Waits and Steve Wetzstein as they raced for second. With ten laps completed Jay Ihrke had started twenty fourth on the field and was in the fifth spot battling with Jeff Schluetter. Timm continued to build up his advantage over the last fifteen laps with Sorensen and Waits racing for second until Waits pulled off with a flat right rear. This moved Schluetter up into the third spot with Greg Jensen finishing fourth in his best run ever at the speedway since moving up to the USRA Modifieds. Ihrke came home fifth.
