Ontario Legends Racing Hits the Dirt

Posted by Tom Ames  |  06/19/07

For the first time in their history, the Ontario Legends Racing series will race for points, on dirt, at Brighton Speedway on June 23rd, 2007. These 5/8 scale versions of 1930s & 1940s Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge, coupes and sedans, powered by a 1.2 liter (75 cubic inch) engines are capable of reaching speeds over 200 km/h (120 mph). Traditionally run on pavement this INEX® Sanctioned series ran a test visit at Brighton in 2006 and decided to give the 1/3 mile clay oval a stop on their 2007 circuit. All eyes will be on Brighton as this is the first time in Canada these cars have ran a sanctioned points event on a dirt track. Presented by one of the series Associate Sponsors, Hutchinson Fuels, visitors to the track will bear witness to a preview of one of the fastest growing segments of motorsports today.

Sharing in the rush experienced by some of the top drivers in NASCAR and BUSCH series who have, and still do, race Legends Cars are local sisters
Nicole (#8) and Amanda(#2) Yarrow of Colborne and Brighton. Chris Maracle(#23) from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory and Bruce Grimes (#88) of Carrying Place
will not have far to go to meet up with the Ontario Legends Racing and run this inaugural dirt race.

Adding to the excitement for local fans, and to the challenge for the drivers to be successful on dirt, is a guest appearance by Brighton Speedway Legend Sam Hazlewood
who will drive one of the cars in hot pursuit of a visit to Victory Lane. “Sam’s experience on dirt and on this track may make him hard to beat, but it will be a challenge for him to drive
a scaled down vehicle with loads of power and lots of speed.” Track promoter Mark Rinaldi commented. “Brighton Speedway is excited to offer Ontario Legends Racing a dirt experience,
and pleased to hear that Sam will be here to add to the event. We are certain that they will want to make us a regular stop on their schedule.”

This inaugural race event is scheduled as part of the Hutchinson Fuels June 23rd race program. Green flag flies at 7:00pm. For more information, visit www.brightonspeedway.com or www.600racing.com.
