BROCKVILLE-Marc Therrien has made quite a name for himself in the past decade in Pro Stock racing in Eastern Ontario with multiple track championships just about everywhere he has ever run. Therrien decided it was time for a change in the off season as he decided to try his hand at a open wheeled car for the first time. Therrien's first few weeks in a Sportsman car at Brockville Ontario Speedway could be deemed as challenging as he got caught up in a number of incidents. However, week 5 proved to be the charm for the Williamstown pilot as he tamed the quarter mile Beast of the East for his first ever DIRT Sportsman victory.
Therrien started in the front row of the 20 lap feature after winning his heat race. A number of drivers would challenge him from time to time, including Randy Earl at one point and Ryan Poole for most of the second half of the race but Therrien in an older Troyer chassis would fend them all off for his first win followed by a roof dance. Poole ended up second in the race which feature multiple caution flags in the first half of the event. Sheldon Hoogwerf finished third followed by Earl and Kees VanWinden.
Still no repeat winners in the 358 DIRT Modified division so far this season. Multi time track champ Danny O Brien broke out of his early season slump powering into the lead early and leading the final 27 circuits en route to his first win of 2007. Adam Moore could keep pace with the Pocket Rocket but never got close enough to have a shot at the lead. Mike Adderly was a strong third with Bryan Rogers and Mark Hitchcock in tow.
Bob Botting looked to have the 15 lap Street Stock event all to himself. However a caution flag with three laps to go was just what the doctor ordered for Steve Billings who blew past after the restart and scored the victory. Billy Code went by as well to finish second in front of the fading Botting. Robin Perrin and Dana Aikens rounded out the fast five.
Josh Kane's run of bad luck also came to an end on Saturday night. He fended off teammate Steve Barber in the late going for his second feature win of the season in the 16 lap Rookie battle. Joe Banks, Jessica Power and Matt Bond were third through fifth respectively.
Sunday afternoon, the spotlight shifted to the Enduro cars with the annual Father's Day Kanes Towing races. Jamie Lockett of Smith's Falls grabbed the checkered flag in the 50 lap 4/6 cylinder event. The 100 lap 8 cylinder race was a cliff hanger despite just one delay for two cars on fire. Victor McCalpin of Brockville saw the green flag to restart the race first and blasted into the lead and led the final 52 laps to score the win over Daryl Steele of Renfrew. Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action, Saturday night, June 23rd with a full race program beginning at 7pm.
