Steve Robinson was re-elected as President of the peak V8 Dirt Modified group Dirt Modified’s Australia at their recent AGM on the Gold Coast. In what has been described as one of the most positive meetings in years, Robinson was elected unopposed to the top job.
“It’s an honour to fill the Presidents role once again” said Robinson. “We had delegates from every state present for a 2 day conference and I can safely say that it was one of the best meetings I have been involved in with some extremely positive outcomes”
Amongst those outcomes was the ratification of a new specification book and the adoption of mandatory one-way radio communication commencing next season.
“Over the past few years we have refined the specifications to the point where we think we have the formula pretty spot on. We only allow steel blocks and have some pretty tight restrictions on other area’s to keep the costs under control. There are no major rule changes for next season, we have just refined the specifications to hopefully eliminate any grey area’s and to keep up with the advances in technology”.
“Queensland lead the way this season with the one-way radio’s and it has been hugely successful so we have adopted this nationally. We have also undertaken steps to devote more focused attention to media and getting more V8 Dirt Modified news in the pages of magazines”.
While V8 Dirt Modified’s continue to flourish in the northern states, car numbers in the southern part of the country are stable with the growth in the South hampered by the lack of cars for sale.
“There is no doubt the single biggest hurdle facing our division is numbers. We have got to give promoters the cars they need to put on a good show. In Victoria and South Australia car numbers haven’t been as high as we would like but we have some very pro-active people involved down there who have already had discussions on how car numbers can be boosted next season. Our division has to tip toe through the differences in American Spec Rules to allow the importation of complete American Cars. It is felt that with some minor specification changes, the decision to allow complete American cars in is not to far off. This in turn will add to the number of cars available for sale and in turn help our numbers grow.”
“V8 Dirt Modified’s are a national division and Dirt Modified’s Australia is working hard to promote V8 Dirt Modified’s at that national level. But for the division to be strong nationally, each state needs to be at full strength. For each state to be strong, it needs each and every driver and car owner to get behind their local club. After this weekends meeting I think we are well on our way to having that happen”.
