(Woodhull, NY) Under glorious skies, the Woodhull Raceway put week number 9 successfully into the record books last Saturday and it was a mixed bag of feature winners with some familiar faces along with a pair of new comers to victory lane.

The LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Division was the high light of the night as the second year class ran their first extra distance feature of 07. Twenty-nine cars checked in requiring three qualifying heats which were picked up by J.R. Hoppe, Ron Daily Jr., and Nick Moorehouse. The ten lap B-Main was won by James Howard. As the field rumbled to the start of the 30 lap grind it was anybody’s guess who would pick-up the win as a whole slew of heavy hitters were positioned within the top half of the starting grid. With very few yellow flags to slow the event it was a continual three, four and sometimes five wide feature with a group of at least five cars dicing for the lead. Isaac Byler of Addison brought out a new car several weeks ago and has been getting stronger and stronger each week and it was his race to win or loose. After leader Ron Daily Jr. had to make a quick trip to the pits Byler retook the lead but had to hold off several challenges by Jamie Freeman and J.R. Hoppe. But at the end it was Byler picking up his first ever feature win on the high banks as he held off Hoppe, Gary Baker, Kevin Patton and Ron Hall. Daily recovered for a fine sixth place finish followed by Jamie Freeman, Artie Mosher, Mark Schenk and Scott Cummings.

Twenty-four of the L.J. Kennedy Trucking 358 Modifieds was on hand for their regular 25 lap feature and by the luck of the re-draw; Bryan Terwilliger brought the field to the opening green. Terwilliger was able to find a quick line around the bottom as Steve Hartman Jr. worked the top line. A few quick yellow flags early on kept the field bunched, but on each restart Terwilliger was able to open up a sizable advantage. By the mid-way portion it was still Bryan T. at the point, but Billy VanPelt was closing rapidly on the cushion and after a spirited battle with Terwilliger VanPelt was able to take the lead. However, Terwilliger would not go away as Vanpelt moved to the bottom, Terwilliger went to the top and for the next 8 laps put on a show that will leave the crowd talking for quite some time. Numerous times Terwilliger was able to get to the outside of VanPelt, but couldn’t retake the lead. Then with only two laps to go, Terwilliger jumped the cushion entering turn one and spun the car ending a brilliant effort. From that point on it was clear sailing for the multi time Woodhull Track Champion as he posted his fourth win of 2007. Frank Dunning had his best night of the year finishing second followed by last weeks winner, Ron Cartwright Jr., Steve Hartman Jr., and Mike Jackson. Donnie Lawson led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Roger Williams and Dale Welty who both had to come from the rear, Kevin Chilson and Steve Hartman Sr. Terwilliger recovered for fifteenth. Opening night heat wins went to Roger Williams, Steve Hartman Jr., and Stacy Jackson.

The S&W Awards and Photos Create Sportsman 20 lap feature was the first feature on the line during the night as it was nothing but yellow fever for the first year division. Eighteen cars checked in with qualifying heats going to Bill VanEtten and Dave Youse. Larry Keegan has been relatively silent the past few weeks of competition, but a front row starting position found the veteran and three time Woodhull feature winner in 2007 in the lead off the opening green flag. However, for Keegan it would not be easy as Bill Brewer gave Keegan fits for most of the event. An opening lap multiple car accident put current point leader, Kenny Peoples Jr. on the trailer early with Dave Yehl and Junior Green restarting from the back. The vast number of cautions kept Brewer with striking distance of Keegan and just past the half way point Brewer made his move. A power move to the inside down the back straight had Keegan and Brewer wheel to wheel entering turn three. With Brewer on the inside the duo ran out of racing room with Brewer clobbering the inside Euclid tire and destroying the front end on his machine and dashing any hopes of claiming his first win of 2007. From that point on it was youngster, Casey Pavlick keeping the pressure on Keegan, but the veteran was too much to handle as he claimed his fourth win of 2007. Pavlick settled for a fine runner-up finish. Billy VanEtten was third with Dave Yehl and Junior Green recovering for fourth and fifth. Dave Youse, Bill Shea, Joe Dgien, Cale Paul and Gary Lampman rounded the top ten.

The Napa Super Stocks ran their regular 20 lap feature in short order as the seventeen cars in attendance put on a terrific show for the fans. With only one yellow flag to slow the pace, Wayne Robertson showed once again that he has the stuff to run with all the big guns in the class as he cruised to his third win of the season. With Jeremy Wonderling breaking free of traffic at the mid way portion it appeared as though he may be able to run down Robertson, however the Atta Boy chassis was not to be denied as Wayne Robertson nailed down his third win of 2007 in very convincing style. Jeremy Wonderling did settle for second followed by Glen Whritenour, Brady Wonderling and Mikey Wonderling as once again the Wonderling Brothers put on quite a show for the fans. Bob Lubberts led Larry Knowles across the line for sixth followed by Mick Seeley, Bryce Davis and Rich Marlatt. Qualifying heat wins went to Whritenour and Mikey Wonderling.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were next on the line for their 20 lap feature with heat wins claimed by Dan Gordon and Tony Foth.

As the nineteen car field rumbled to the opening green flag, Tony Foth jumped into the early lead. For Foth and his crew it was a week of burning midnight oil as a bone jarring crash last Saturday left the potent #16 in a heap. Having to rebuild the entire front end of the car it worked to perfection as Foth was never seriously challenged during the event which saw only three yellow flags slowing the pace. However, when the yellow flag was displayed it was for hard crashes which took out the team cars of Mike Williams and Charly Resue along with Henry Miracle and Jay Deming. As the checkered flag was displayed it was Tony Foth winning the event and securing a place in the season ending Morgan’s Auto Repair Race of Champions as he was followed by Josh Nobriga, Barry Payne, Brian Knowles and Rod Mullen. Six thru ten were Lance Baker, Cliff Moss, Darwin Davis, Russell Morseman III and Zach Sutton.

Last but not least the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks were on the track for their 20 lap feature as a full boat of the Might Mini’s took the opening green flag. Ted Morseman Jr. has had a fast hot rod all season long and after picking up his first ever feature win several weeks ago he now has the confidence to run with anybody and once again he proved the point on Saturday as he was able to hold back an elite field of his rear wheel drive, four cylinder competitors. Rich Sharpsteen II was running at the top when he was sent pit side but was able to make it back on the track and stay on the lead lap, but was never a factor. A whole slew of cars were nipping at Moresman’s rear bumper, but no one could pass the high flying second generation driver as he cruised to win number two on the year. Adam Austin finished second chased there by Brian Butler, Art Goodier and Brian Grant Sr. Mike Smith led the next group of five followed by early race leader, Brett Marlatt, Jason Ketrow, Ed Mills and Dennis Erdmann. Marlatt was running third and lost a drive shaft while coming to the checkered relegating him to a seventh place finish. Early evening heat wins went to Sharpsteen II, Mike Smith and Marlatt.

All total 129 cars checked in for the Big 6 Show and a large crowd was in attendance as for the second consecutive week everyone enjoyed the competition under clear skies and warm temperatures.

Next week it will be a Regular Big Show as RLB Trucking of Jasper will sponsor the night of competition. Gates at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm.
