PARK CITY, Kan. (June 18, 2007) – It was a veteran and a rookie taking checkers over the Memorial Day weekend in the O’Reilly NCRA Modified Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol.
Brian Franz outran everyone May 25 at Humboldt ( Kan. ) Speedway for his 22nd career NCRA modified series victory. By contrast, rookie of the year candidate Jeremy Massey edged Franz at the checker for his first career win May 26 at Enid ( Okla. ) Speedway Park .
Three-time champion John Allen held the point lead after his May 19 victory in the season opener. It has been his only appearance with the series thus far this year.
Franz, the four-time defending series champion, has said he doesn’t plan to run for another title but is currently first in the standings with 865 points. The Halstead, Kan. , driver has a first and two seconds in three shows so far.
Massey, from Park City , Kan. , is second with 765 points. He has a pair of top 10 finishes to go with his win. He plans to run the entire season with the NCRA modifieds.
Close behind Massey in third are a pair of drivers from Wichita , Kan. – Greg Stephens with 740 points and Brian Powers with 720.
