SPEED Channel set to film new show July 8 at Independence Motor Speedway

by Ryan Clark

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – A different kind of speed is coming to Independence Motor Speedway.

“Rapid Turnover,” a new reality show set to air on cable TV’s SPEED Channel, is scheduled to film five half-hour episodes on the 3/8-mile oval on Sunday, July 8.

Created by New Hampton native Rich Christensen, “Rapid Turnover” will feature individual drivers competing in three different disciplines of racing – on motorcycles, on ATVs and on foot – in what is billed a “sprint medley.”

Ten at a time, contestants will take to the speedway, first to go head-to-head for five laps on 450cc or smaller dirt bikes. The drivers then dismount from their bikes and hop on 450cc or smaller ATVs for an additional five circuits before returning to their bikes for another five laps. Drivers then return to their ATVs for five final laps before dismounting and entering a 30-yard foot race to the checkered flag.

To add to the excitement, each time drivers dismount, they will run to their waiting rides to continue the race. Other obstacles may be included before the race course is finalized. The top two finishers in each race will transfer to subsequent events.

“Rapid Turnover” is part of a new primetime SPEED Channel series, “Launch Hour.” Five original episodes of new shows are aired during the “Launch Hour” program, leaving fans with the opportunity to decide if each show is worthy of its own series.

The event in Independence, which is scheduled to begin taping at 10 a.m., is free of charge to the public. Grandstand seating will be available and the speedway concessions stand will be open. The event is expected to last throughout most of the day.

Currently, there are 45 drivers signed up to take part in the event, however there is no limit to the number of entrants allowed. The only requirement to take part in the show is to have a 450cc or smaller dirt bike. ATVs will be made available.

Those interested in participating are asked to contact Ray Iddings, brand manager for “Launch Hour,” at (317) 893-2147.
