Traditional mid-season championships return this Saturday to Independence Motor Speedway
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – For the first time in five years, points leaders will get their chance to shine from the front of the pack on June 23 during Budweiser Mid-season Championships at Independence Motor Speedway. All feature events will be lined straight-up by total points in the mid-season special for the first time since 2002.
All drivers in attendance in divisions not requiring B features will automatically be qualified for feature events. In divisions that require a B feature (more than 24 cars signed in), the top 19 in points will be locked in as automatic qualifiers. The B feature winner will transfer to complete that division’s 20-car feature field.
Also returning will be the Indee Challenge. The top four drivers in each division’s standings, including all ties for fourth place, will be given the option to start their events from the tail of the field with the opportunity to double their money with a feature win.
I.M.C.A.-sanctioned late models, modifieds, stock cars and hobby stocks, along with unsanctioned B modifieds, will be competing. Gates open at 4 p.m. with extended hot laps scheduled for 6 p.m. and racing to follow. No heat races will be run as feature lineups will be predetermined.
The event will be sponsored by the speedway’s Budweiser Distributor, Fahr Beverage of Waterloo. Discounted prices of $2 on all tallboy beer products will be offered during the night.
