The Empire Super Sprints Invade Ohsweken and Merrittville this Weekend.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a very successful three race weekend to kick off the Lucas Oil Canadian Invasion Series, the stars and cars of the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will now head to Lucas Oil’s backyard with visits in Western Ontario to the Ohsweken and Merrittville Speedways this weekend. It will be stops five and six on the tour brought to you by Jacobs Motorsports.

The Glenn Styres owned and promoted Friday night speedplant has been a mainstay for winged sprint car racing and this season marks five consecutive that ESS will visit the quick and multi-grooved 3/8ths mile oval. The home of the very successful Canadian Sprint Car Nationals, Ohsweken has become well known in the sprint car community from both countries and this year they will hold the first ever appearance of the World of Outlaws on July 25th..

Styres, along with his teammate Keith Dempster, had fun with ESS last weekend getting ready for the big weekend. They will lead the brigade of Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) stars in holding their home turf from the invasion of the ESS faithful. Heading the list of invaders from the US side of the border will be current point leader and already two-time winner Jeff VanDusen. Fans can also expect two-time champion Lance Yonge, current Lucas Oil point leader Tommy Wickham, Jeff Cook, Mike Stelter and many, many more.

The Car Mate Custom Built Trailers heat events will kick off the night followed by the Arrow Express/Walt’s Hobby Dash event, the KSE Racing Products B-Main with the 25 lap A-Main capping off an exciting evening which also features the Lucas Oil Shootout for the Sportsman.

After a year off, it’s back to the famed Merrittville Speedway where ESS has held 34 events dating back to the 1984 season. Under the promotion of the Bicknell family and Randy Williamson, the D-Shaped oval has become one of the most successful dirt tracks in all of Canada.

ESS stars like defending champion Alain Bergeron, Steve Poirier, the defending Canadian Sprint Car Nationals champion, Justin Barger, Bubby Kerrick, Cory Sparks and others will be in the pits for the only winged sprint car race at Merrittville in 2007. The same program will be held with dash sponsorship coming from the Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel with representative Fred Cade on hand racing his sprint car as well.

Also on the evening will be a special bicycle match race featuring Bergeron against one of Merrittville’s own stars on the inside, go-cart track. The event will be a benefit for kids and always a fan favorite when the track holds a special event.

Ohsweken and Merrittville…Fans, the winged warriors of the Empire Super Sprints and the tour brought to you by Jacobs Motorsports is invading your house. As it has become tradition for 25 years, it will be excitement guaranteed!!
