(Woodhull, NY) Another glorious night for racing found a pair of new faces in Woodhull’s victory lane last Saturday and four repeat winners.

Bill Brewer had a good career at Woodhull a decade ago when competing in the Super Stock Division. After a brief stint in a 358 Modified he then went into semi-retirement as a driver and took on the role of co- mentor to the youth class at Woodhull. When the all new Crate Sportsman Class was started this year he along with good friend Chuck Morgan climbed on board and the duo have made noise all year long, but have never been able to find victory lane. However, that all changed as Brewer able to pass then leader, Kenny Peoples Jr. late in the event and hold on for his first win of the year. Peoples, who looked poised to make it win number two in 07 bobbled momentarily in lapped traffic allowing Brewer to get by and after numerous tries to retake the lead, Peoples did have to settle for a well deserved runner-up finish. Bill VanEtten was a close third followed by Dave Youse and Casey Pavlick. Junior Green led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Bill Shea, Gary Lampman, Cale Paul and Nate Delong. Heat wins were posted by Dave Yehl and Junior Green

With his win, Brewer was allowed to tag onto the back of the 358 Modified feature event as 26 cars rumbled to the opening 25 lap feature event. By the luck of the re-draw, Bryan Terwilliger was once again in the front row and made his presence known early as the third generation pilot opened up an insurmountable lead in the early going. However, several yellow flags slowed the event and kept the field bunched and on a lap 8 restart, Terwilliger’s mount stumbled causing a jam-up on the start. With Terwilliger now well off the pace and heading pit side another brilliant run was dashed and opened the field up to several new players as Dale Welty assumed the top spot. A couple more yellows allowed the VanPelt Brothers to keep within striking distance as Curt V. was able to hold a slight advantage over Billy V. coming thru traffic. The high flying Ted White Racing duo put on a quite a show for the fans as they worked the top of the high banks to perfection and overtook leader Welty at the half way point. With Curt in the lead and Billy all over him they encountered lap traffic which never was a factor and a late race caution erased any chance of Billy overtaking Curt in lapped traffic. Curt V. was able to hold his position at the top and in doing so picked up win number 1 of the season ad younger brother Billy settled for second and with that the two are poised for another championship run. Welty did hold on for a respectable third place finish as he was able to hold off a fast closing Stacy Jackson with Kevin Chilson putting on another solid performance to round out the top five. Six thru ten were Rookie competitor, Chris Clark, Roger Williams, Gil Tegg Jr. who started last, Steve Hartman Sr. and Ron Cartwright Jr. who came from the back on two separate occasions. Heat wins went to Bobby Davis, Steve Hartman Jr. and Dale Welty.

It may have been a slim field number wise in the NAPA Super Stock Division, however the quality of cars more than made up for the lack of cars as Scio driver, Jeremy Wonderling had to use his brother Brady’s car to keep up his points at Woodhull and the switch paid off as Wonderling made it win number two on the season as he held off a late race challenge by Glen Whritenour. Rookie competitor and early race leader, Bryce Davis turned in another solid performance for third just barely holding off Wayne Robertson for fourth and Rich Marlatt for fifth. New comer, Eric Matthews finished sixth chased there by Greg Young, Mick Seeley, Gary Archer and Kenny Peoples Sr. Heat winners were Peoples Sr. and Robertson.

The Street Stocks were next on the line with a solid field of performers set to go in their regular 20 lap feature with earlier evening heat wins going to Darwin Davis and Dan Gordon. At the drop of the opening green flag it was Glen Whritenour taking command in the early going as on this night Whritenour was doing double duty and fresh off a runner-up finish in the Super Stock feature looked poised to make it a win in Street Stock action. However, Dan Gordon and Barry Payne had other thoughts as the pair were able to get around Whritenour and take over the top two positions at the mid way point. With Gordon in the lead, Payne was all over him with just inches separating the two and the laps winding down. A couple of last lap attempts by Payne fell short and Gordon was able to pick-up his fourth win of 2007 and with that it puts him in position to defend his 2006 track title. Payne did settle for second, his best finish of 07 followed by Whritenour, Mike Williams and Josh Nobriga. Six thru ten were Zach Sutton, Jeff Smith, Cliff Moss, Ray Hyer and Henry Miracle.

With the re-draw in place, Art Goodier was able to use his number 1 starting position to lead every lap of the 20 lap Mini Stock feature event and in winning was able to extend his comfortable point lead as he, like Dan Gordon before him is looking to repeat as 2007 Woodhull Raceway Track Champion. For Goodier it was win number 5 on the year, but young gun, Adam Austin gave Goodier fits the last handful of laps and looked to be the quicker of the two cars. But, Goodier was not to be denied and held off Austin to win by less than a car length at the finish followed by Lynn Burrell, Brett Marlatt and Brian Butler who were all within striking distance of the lead duo at the finish. Mike Smith, Rich Sharpsteen II, A.J. Costley, Justin McNeil and Tracy Dunn rounded the top ten.

Last but not least the Front Wheel Drive Class was on the speedway for their regular 20 lap feature and in an event that was virtually caution free, Jamie Freeman was able to get to the point in a hurry and never looked back for his second win of the season, but it did not come easy as J.R. Hoppe kept pace with Freeman throughout then entire distance, but had to settle for second at the finish chased there by Gary Baker, Tom McGlynn, Kevin Patton, Scott Cummings, Mark Guinnup, Artie Moshier, Kyle Moorehouse and Ron Hill. Early evening heat wins went to Isaac Byler, J.R. Hoppe and Gary Baker.

Representatives of RLB Trucking in Jasper were on had to sponsor the Regular Big 6 Show as they presented beautiful plaques to all of the feature event winners

A capacity crowd was once again on hand to enjoy the evening of competition which say some 121 cars in action.

Next week it will be the running of the Annual Jim Williams Memorial Races at the track with the largest fireworks show in the region going off shortly after dark. The night is sponsored by Wade’s Building Supply of Addison. It all begins with a Woodhull Volunteer Fire Department Chicken Bar-B-Que starting at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm
