Another week, Another Modified winner at Brockville
BROCKVILLE-The 358 DIRT Modified class at Brockville Ontario Speedway is still looking for a two time winner as the month of July approaches. With a quarter mile to go in Saturday night's 30 lap feature it looked like Stephane LaFrance was going to change all that, until fate intervened and Watertown's Mike Adderley emerged with a long awaited first ever feature win at the Beast of the East.
Lance Willix dominated the early going of the event, only to give up the lead to LaFrance, who led on lap 29 but was approaching lapped traffic. LaFrance opted for the high side coming out of turn 2, the lapped car immediately ahead also went up high down the back straight, providing Adderley with the chance he needed. The young pilot who has been close to a victory at the BOS numerous times in the past, finally got the break he had been waiting for, diving down to the inside and scooting past a trapped LaFrance for the win. The Little Hammer, settled for second spot with Danny O Brien, Kyle Dingwall and Mark Hitchcock all in hot pursuit as the checkered flag fell.
Randy Earl who came close to winning on opening night only to have a wheel come loose late in the race while leading, also got a better shake this time. Earl's car was hooked up on the outside of the quarter mile enabling him to rocket to the front and score the victory in the 20 lap DIRT Sportsman race. Ryan Poole made a nifty inside move on the final turn to wrestle second spot away from Sheldon Hoogwerf, who spent most of the event battling Earl back and forth for the top spot. Chris Raabe and Adam Turner rounded out the top five.
Dana Aikens was a first time winner in 2007 in the Street Stock division. Aikens had some anxious moments in turn two on the final lap before holding off Steve Billings for the triumph. Brock Cullen, invader Bob McKeown, and Billy Code were third through fifth respectively. A furious four car battle at the front of the field highlighted the 15 lap Rookie race. Joe Banks saw his hopes go away late with a slowing car handing the top spot over to Steve Barber who nosed out a very game Josh Kane for the win. John Johnson was third in front of Dwight Feltham and Jessica Power. Ben Tucker scored the win in the 10 lap McNamee Concrete Vintage car feature.
