Accord, New York - Bachetti Rockets to Third Accord Win on Cedar Ridge RV Night
by Steve Pados, Accord Media
With the K&W Car Wash Fireworks extravaganza show slated to blast off at the Accord Speedway on June 29th, Sheffield, Massachusetts hotshoe Andy Bachetti decided to jumpstart the activity one week early and provide his own firepower as he totally dominated the on-track action in securing his third win of the season at the Ulster County bullring.
Bachetti, drove his Albreada Waste/Wentworth Construction/PMC sponsored machine from his ninth starting position in just seven laps to take command of the lead and easily outdistance his competition to record the win on Cedar Ridge RV Night.
Rick Mill and "Jumpin" John McGill paced the Rhinebeck Ford Modified field down for the start of the 30-lap feature event and it was Mill working the bottom of the raceway off of turn two to assume command of the lead. Mill, the veteran campaigner driving the Crackers Motorsports entry, changed lanes after taking the lead and worked the highline to try and outdistance himself from the rest of the field.
The racing mid-pack was worth the price of the admission ticket as Bachetti, Tommy Hindley, Dom Roselli, Jerry Higbie, Richie Eurich, Rich Ricci Jr, and Robbie Green waged an intense battle to forge their way forward to challenge the high-flying Mill.
As the battle raged on, Higbie using both the top and bottom to move forward, touched Hindley in turn one and turned him around, necessitating a restart. Higbie decided to watch the remainder of the race from the sidelines.
When racing resumed, Bachetti rocketed to the wildside of the raceway chasing Mill.
Mill, firmly entrenched in the outside racing lane, held his ground. Bachetti, looking for the opportune time to move around Mill, swept from the wildside of turn three to the bottom side of turn four to nose his way in front of Mill and take control of the race. Bachetti, the "Wild Child," dominated the action the remainder of the way to record his third win of the season at Accord. The win was the third straight win for the talented Bachetti, having won at Lebanon Valley the previous Saturday night and at Utica Rome last Sunday night.
Rick Mill, in an excellent run, raced to second, Donnie Elliott, who looks stronger with each passing week, was third, Rich Ricci Jr, utilizing Big Block power, was fourth and the "Iceman" Dom Roselli, who literally finished completing repairs to the car on race day, was fifth in an outstanding drive.
In the Amsoil Pro Stock feature event, polesitter Adam Douglas and John Roese waged an early battle that saw the determined Roese, seeking his first win of the season, assume command of the lead on lap six and record his first win of the season despite a late challenge by Bill Deak Jr. Adam Douglas held on for third with
Canaan, Connecticut's John Routhier making a late-race charge to net fourth and Don Williams completing the top five.
Hometown ace Howard Jarvis drove his Jarvis Fuel Service sponsored machine from eleventh starting position in just seven laps to win the Camper's Barn Sportsman feature event. Jarvis ran down early leader Steve Krom by utilizing the wildside of the raceway to perfection to make the winning pass and then drove away from the remainder of the field to secure the win. Steve Meilleur, in a great run, was second with Ken Ferrier finishing third and Steve Krom and Tom Tomasko completing the top five.
Steve Eubanks led the Heart Chevrolet Spec Sportsman field for three laps before giving way to Jeremy Quick. Quick paced the field for a lap before giving way to the hard charging Vinnie DeCicco. Once in front, DeCicco was never headed as he secured the 20-lap victory. Jeremy Quick was second with Jeff Richardson third and Greg Hastie and Danny Conklin rounding out the top five.
In the Bryant's Towing Pure Stock feature event, Paul Aragon Jr led the first two circuits before giving way to Joe Judge. Once in front, Judge never looked back in recording the win, despite a late charge by Gary Ronk. Ronk finished second with newcomer Wayne Hajek third, Aragon holding on for fourth, and Ryan Coon completing the top five.
2006 Mini Sprint Champion Clint Roehrs drove his Apple Greens/Roehrs Construction sponsored Mini Sprint to a convincing win the 20-lap Kingston Nissan Mini Sprint feature event. Roehrs, who started from ninth starting position, overhauled early leader John Lieto on lap six to record his fifth win of the season in a race that saw Phil Beesmer and JD Casazza get upside down in a turn four incident and Dana Carey getting upside down in a turn two crash with Pat Potter, Mike Goodnow, and Brian Collier. Lieto, the 2005 Champion at the speedway was second with Scott Goodrich, Peter Sindt and Tim Durland rounding out the top five.
In the Northeast Vintage Modified group feature event, Howard Murphy, utilizing a Johnny Harroll replicar, again dominated the action for his second win of the year at Accord. Mike Brown, driving the Chamberlain 76 look alike Falcon, was in for second with Robbi Casti powering his Plymouth coupe to third with John Hager fourth in his Chevy coupe. Jim Halpin, who doubles at the speedway as a Modified competitor, completed the top five in the Frankie Schneider style Pinto.
MUDPLUGS:
Again the field of competition was given an additional boost with new drivers continuing to make their way to Accord. Bob Hentschel made his first appearance of the season and ran strong but was involved in a skirmish that put him on the sidelines early. Darrell Ford made his first visit a good one as he carved out a nice ninth place finish in the feature event.
The Pure Stock ranks swelled with the addition of Wayne Hajek and Chris Murphy. Hajek nailed down a fourth and Murphy an eleventh in their first outings.
Pat Potter brought a brand new Mini Sprint to the raceway to debut. Unfortunately, Potter was involved in a backstretch skirmish that saw Dana Carey flipping in the incident. Carey, who resides in Hachioji, Japan, and is employed as an Elementary school teacher for the Department of Defense, was uninjured in the accident although the car suffered extensive damage.
Ryan Stortini returned to action and recorded a solid eleventh place finish in the star-studded Modified field.
Last week's Modified feature event winner Jerry Higbie was kept busy during the week with appearances on the CARQUEST Gasoline Alley show on Monday night and Local Cable TV-6 on Thursday that aired on Friday.
Rich Ricci Jr brought his Lebanon Valley Big Block car to the track to try something different. Ricci, who shook the car down in early season practice session at Accord,
had the family signature numbered 406 car dialed in as raced from 12th starting place to finish fourth.
Young Tommy Johnson continues to impress as the 14-year old Quad graduate recorded his best finish to date with a solid sixth place in the main event.
John Routhier turned in a great performance in his Canaan Auto Supply/StingerX/A&S Engines sponsored mount. In only his second appearance at the track, Routhier charged from the back of the pack to finish fourth.
Again, the track was in outstanding condition as Promoter Gary Palmer continues his great prep-work to give the racers a great race track to compete on. The track remained tacky and dust-free throughout and the racing lanes range from the bottom of the raceway to the outside boiler plate, depending on each drivers preferred style.
With this week's K&W Car Wash night and the Fireworks show, the Palmer Family will offer $250.00 in Gas Card certificates to some lucky racing fans.
Banner night will also be part of the evening's activities as the winner of the Banner contest will receive $40.00 in cash for the winning entry, 2nd-place will receive $25.00 and third through fifth will receive new Dirt styles hats courtesy of CARQUEST Gasoline Alley and Freedom Plains.
