Race fans at Brighton Speedway were treated to a double header of dirt flying pedal to the metal action as June 23rd and 24th were both filled with racing on the 1/3 mile clay oval. The Hutchinson Fuels Ontario Legends Series first time ever points event on dirt in Canada proved to be a definite show stopper on Saturday night. Although a few of the 19 5/8 scale versions of 1930s & 1940s Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge, coupes and sedans, didn’t make it through the feature, those that did enjoyed racing on the tacky dirt and are hoping to make Brighton a regular stop on the INEX sanctioned tour list. “For the first time on dirt these “little” 1.2 liter (75 cubic inch) engines, and their drivers did a great job of maintaining speed and control on the variable surface called dirt. We hope they know that Brighton Speedway would love to host them again”, said Pit Director Brenda Whitehead.
Also maintaining speed and control were track favourites Gary Vandertoorn, of Brighton in his #8 Mister Signz Pure Stock and Charlie Sandercock of Trenton in his #57 Canadian Modified. Both gentlemen finished first in their respective features, along with Warren Mowat, of Brighton, in his #46 Quinte Towing Stinger. Ronnie “the Rocket” Wadforth, 2006 Brighton Automotive Pro Stock Champion, also made a visit to Victory Lane in his #40 Camaro. Taking a rest for the night were the always popular Bill’s Johns Comp 4 cars and drivers. They will be back next week as all classes gear up for the Mid Season Championship double points races presented by Brighton Automotive.
A total of 67 cars geared up for the Hotch's Auto Parts 66 Mile Scrambler (200 Lap Endurance Race) on June 24th. All 67 decaled, painted and themed up cars took the green and when the checker flew those that remained were chocolate coloured, clay covered machines still circulating on the track. “As always the endurance race is a test of patience for drivers and stamina for their car and crew. It really is the ultimate way to determine who has the endurance to not only out race, but more importantly out pace the competition,” said Mark Rinaldi, Track Promoter. The next endurance race is the Hotch's Auto Parts Summer Slam Enduro on August 19th.
The next race event at Brighton Speedway is the Brighton Automotive Presentation of the Mid Season Championship, including the Mystical Distributing Canada Day Fire Works on Saturday June 30th, 2007. Time Trials start at 6pm and the double point races begin following their completion.
