BLANEY SEEKING A REPEAT OF ELDORA HISTORY
ROSSBURG, OH (June 25) -- Dale Blaney is hoping that history repeats itself and can put April’s dismal All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car showing behind him, as Ohio’s fabled Sprint Speedweek rolls into Eldora Speedway Saturday night for its finale. With a victor’s share of $10,000 on the line, and valuable points towards not only the All Star’s season title, but the Speedweek title as well, it could be a very lucrative night.
Blaney, a four-time Speedweek champion, bested a stellar field of entrant’s to capture last year’s Speedweek closer and the overall title. He opened this year’s rugged 7-night duel with a victory at Attica Raceway Park Sunday night.
While the Ohio Sprint Speedweek point fund has been increased by $5,000 to a total of $15,000, courtesy of the University of Northwestern Ohio, Blaney is looking ahead to more than just the title. The All Star officials, in cooperation with the participating tracks, have posted a $50,000 bonus to a driver if he is able to capture 4 of the 7 Speedweek events.
Anxious to dethrone Blaney at Eldora are Rob Chaney and Shane Stewart, among others. Chaney has been playing the bridesmaid role to Blaney at many venues this year, and with strong showings at Eldora over the past few seasons, he is confident to reverse the positioning of the twosome. Meanwhile, Stewart turned in a strong run to capture April’s All Star event on Eldora’s ultra-quick one-half mile clay oval.
Saturday’s event will kick off with a chicken BBQ dinner at 2:00, open to the public, followed by on-track activities beginning at 6:00 PM. The first of many preliminary events will take the green flag at 7:30 PM. Joining the tripleheader program will be the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars.
