IRA Doubleheader June 29-30.
The Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Outlaw Sprint Series has a pair of shows this weekend with action kicking off Friday June 29th at Illinois' Kankakee Motor Speedway. Then Saturday the tour heads north to the Plymouth Dirt Track on the grounds of Sheboygan County (WI) Fair Park.
It's been a few years since Kankakee has hosted a sprint event, though the last time was a memorable one with Jason Johnson coming from the back to pass Danny Smith on the events final corner to take his first career IRA win. The newly reconfigured track back then proved to be outstanding, featuring numerous racing grooves. IRA shares the Kankakee card with a complete show of UMP Late Models and Modifieds. Northern Illinois hasn't had much sprint car action the past few years, and IRA hopes this Kankakee event will help build future dates in the area. Kankakee is just south of Chicago off I-57. IRA's only other 2007 Illinois event is slated for this fall, September 22nd at the LaSalle Speedway.
On Saturday, June 30th, The Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Outlaw Sprint Series makes its' first of two 2007 visits to the popular venue of Sheboygan County Fair Park in Plymouth, Wisconsin. It's a homecoming of sorts for many teams as several IRA teams are based in southeastern Wisconsin. IRA teams up with WDLMA Late Models and PDTR Grand Nationals and Outlaw Compacts in a show that promises to be "the biggest of the summer" at Plymouth. Sheboygan County Fair Park is unquestionably one of the finest fairground facilities in the country. Plymouth is located just north of Milwaukee.
Minnesota driver Travis Whitney comes into the weekend as "the man" in recent IRA competition having won three of the last four series events. Whitney, the defending IRA Champion holds a slim lead in this years' point chase over Mike Reinke, Steve Meyer,
2004-2005 IRA Champion Scotty Neitzel, and 2002 IRA Champ John Haeni. All will be on hand this weekend as will the series winningest driver thus far in 2007, 1999 IRA King Donny Goeden, who has four series wins to his credit all ready.
