Veteran Alabama Ace Takes Warrior Race Car to Become 9th Different
FASTRAK Winner in 2007
June 23, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Phenix City, AL)
Dana Eiland scored a win in FASTRAK Southern Region
Touring Series action Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway
to become the ninth different winner in as many events on the 2007
season for the nation's leading crate engine Late Model Series.
Eiland, of Salem, Alabama slipped past rookie contender Richie
Stephens on the eleventh lap and held off continued strong challenges
to claim the win and the $2,000 prize. Driving his Chevrolet Monte
Carlo sponsored by H & M Auto Care and the Staff Zone, Eiland was
able to hang on for the win despite furious charges by Stephens and a
charging William Thomas to reclaim the top spot that he had for the
first ten circuits of the forty lap affair.
Following time-trial qualifications which saw Thomas, the young gun
from Phenix City, set fast time with a lap of 16.37 seconds. The top-
six qualifiers were inverted according to a draw by a half-dozen
contest winning youngsters in attendance for the feature event.
Eiland would start the main event from the fourth position, as Thomas
rolled to the green flag from the inside of the third row. Thomas
earned the FASTRAK Fast Qualifier award with a bonus one-hundred
dollars for his qualifying efforts. Young race fan Callie Donahue of
Columbus, Georgia drew the pole for Jody Knowles who would experience
problems on the first lap and fall from contention. At the start of
the feature it was Stephens who would sprint to the front of the
field and lead the first ten laps before yielding the top spot to
eventual winner Eiland. The race was slowed by five caution periods
with a variety of spins and incidents on the track, with the fourth
yellow waving when Sylvester, Georgia driver Stacey Roberts spun
following contact with Thomas as the pair battled furiously for the
third position.
At the checkered flag Eiland beat Stephens to the stripe by a car
length with Thomas, David McCoy and Larry Eldridge rounding out the
top-five. The Hard Charger of the event was Lee Cooper who finished
in tenth after starting the main event in the twenty-third spot.
Eiland's efforts are also sponsored by RaceIt and Stealth Carburetors.
The FASTRAK Series now heads to Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap,
Tennessee for next Saturday night's national event which will pay
$5,000 to win on June 30th. The one-day show will also host an
optional practice night on Friday (June 29th) with complete event
information available at www.fastrakracing. com. Following that event
another $5,000 to-win event will take place at Pennsylvania' s Mercer
Raceway Park on Wednesday, July 4. It will be the first ever FASTRAK-
sanctioned event at Mercer and will be part of the new Northeast
Region Touring Series and an optional national event.
