Erie, PA…The next stop for the 2007 BRP CanAm Late Model Series is Sunday July 1st at Bobby Rohrer’s Eriez Speedway. This will be event #7 of the 19 events for the 2007 5th Anniversary season of the Series.
Eriez Speedway is located just five minutes south of Interstate 90 Exit #29 on Sampson Road in Erie, PA. Additional Eriez information is available at www.Eriez-Speedway.com or 814-825-5661. Note, the correct Exit is #29 [old Exit #8]. Gates will open at 3:30 for a 5:00 program.
Series A-Main winners to-date have been: Jeff Chesebro at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, Steve Dixon at Woodhull Raceway, Randy Hall at Merrittville Speedway, Jim Johnson at Humberstone Speedway, and Larry Knowles at both Black Rock Speedway and Ransomville Speedway.
Randy Hall, the defending Series Champion, is the current point leader on the strength of five top five finishes. Hall’s only “blemish” came in the 2007 opener at Black Rock where he finished 7th.
Jim Johnson and Jeff Chesebro stand 2nd and 3rd in the $30,000 point fund battle at this early stage. They are separated by only one point. Both lead the point battles at their Saturday night home tracks; Genesee [Johnson] and McKean County [Chesebro].
Paul Grigsby has become the “Energizer Bunny” with steady consistent quiet runs which have him fourth in the standings. Grigsby has never won a BRP CanAm Series event, but is on everyone list for the next new winner. Officer Grigsby doesn’t care about the potential list his goal is the winner’s list.
Steve Dixon won his first ever BRP CanAm event at Woodhull on Memorial Day and has had a very strong start to the ’07 Series which has put the popular second generation race car driver fifth in points. Steve’s father, Bob Dixon, was the Series Champion in 2003 and 2004. Steve would love to add his six foot champion’s trophy to the collection in their Smethport, PA race car shop.
Despite the fact that Larry Knowles is the only two time winner his DNF at Cayuga County has shuffled “The Racin’ Guy” back to sixth in the points tally. Sixth, but only 9 points behind Dixon. .
Matt Cobb is having his best ever Series. The Bradford, PA weekend warrior has a pair of podium finishes and stands seventh in the early season points. Cobb has a new Ed Carley built Rocket Impala SS with new Moe Kemp power. That package may be the best that Cobb has ever raced. A new package that has many hours of love and care administered by car owner Pat Cobb, Matt’s dad, and the crew have produced lots of smiles at the #75 trailer this spring and summer.
Series rookies Bob Buono and Mike Williams are both off to great starts and find themselves racing for wins, points, and the $1000 Absolute Powder Coating Rookie of the Year award. These rookies currently stand eighth and ninth in points.
Rick Baker is one of four Canadians that have raced with Series already in 2007. Baker leads all Canadians and 40 others in points as he currently rounds out the top ten.
