2008 Australian V8 Modified Title to Warrnambool

Posted by Tom Ames  |  06/28/07

V8 Dirt Modified fans rejoice! Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium has been awarded the right to host the 2008 Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship. The high-speed Victorian venue will host Australia’s premier V8 Dirt Modified event over two nights on February 15 & 16, in what will be one of the most eagerly anticipated Australian Titles in quite some time.

“I think it will be one of the tougher years” said Tim Morse , Warrnambool local and defending Australian Champ. “It’s the same old story, there are probably 10 cars who can win it. Its going to be very, very tough, the top three of four cars there won’t be very much in it”

Morse will be looking to secure his fifth Australian Title in 2008.

“It will make for a pretty exciting event. If its hooky and fast you’ll be starting where you are going to finish but if it slickens off and gets the top right up on the fence going, which it does do some times, it will be good for starting down the back and coming forward”

“They’ll get a pretty good car count. It will have the effect where the northern guys want to turn up just so they can say they’ve raced at Warrnambool. It will be the same as me going up to Parramatta , a big, fast wide open track”

Heir-apparent to the Australian crown, Queenslander Luke Oldfield is already chomping at the bit to do battle with Morse and go one better than his runner-up finish in 2007.

“No matter what, I’ll be there!” exclaimed a confident Oldfield, who is looking forward to the challenge of dethroning Morse in his own backyard.

“I’d love top mix it up with him down there on his home soil, I’ll be giving him a run for his money, that’s for sure!”

Planning for the event is now well underway, with organisers expecting a field of over 30 of the nation’s best to descend on Warrnambool for the Title. Conscious of the need to put on the best possible spectacle in the biggest race of the year, the V8 Dirt Modified governing body, Dirt Modifieds Australia , have formulated a unique incentive to attract the largest possible number of cars. Details of the incentive package are still being finalised, with an announcement expected in the near future.
