Rain Forces Cancellation of Action at Virginia Motor Speedway
Jamaica, VA – Heavy rains overnight, a persistent drizzle and the forecast for more of the same throughout the day have forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel Fantastic Friday #4 racing activities.
“We hate that we have to call a race, but with the persistent rain showers and the forecast for more we felt it was in the best interest of our competitors and fans to go ahead and cancel tonight’s event,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.
With the rain out officials will now shift gears towards next weekend’s 4th of July Celebration presented by Cecil B Arthur Enterprises. There’s nothing more ‘All American’ than dirt racing and fireworks and that’s just exactly what fans will see when the gates swing open, next Friday night, July 6th, at 5pm for a night full of fast family fun!
On tap for the 4th of July Celebration is a five race card that will include Round 2 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T. The four race series offers a bonus program for multiple wins. The Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge once again will pay a $5,000 bonus to anyone winning two of the four events with it going to $15,000 if a driver wins three of four events. And finally, if a driver sweeps all four events that driver would pick up a cool $25,000 bonus. In round one of the four race series Roland Mann of Chaptico, MD held off 15 year old Austin Hubbard of Seaford, DE for the victory and is the only driver with a chance at the $25,000 bonus.
Also scheduled will be the Truckin Thunder Sportsman, New Generation Racing Sprint Car, Charger and All American divisions.
There will also be a huge fireworks display presented by JEFCO, Inc. It’s a night for the whole family!
Admission will see adult tickets at just $10, senior and military $8, students 13 –17 yrs old $7, children 7 – 12 yrs old $4 and children 6 and under free. The Speedway offers a Family Pack for two adults and two children 12 and under for only $20. Also check our website for $2 off discount coupons.
Competitor gates for Friday, July 6th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 7:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Friday July 6th: Victory Lap Late Models (40 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (30 Laps); New Generation Racing Sprint Cars (25 Laps); VMS Chargers (25 Laps) and VMS All Americans (15 Laps).
