BREWERTON, NY – Tom Sears Jr. of Clay won his second DIRTcar Modified feature of the 2007 race season on Friday at Brewerton Speedway on Novelis / Wheel-A-Way Motorsports Night. Sears came from the fifth starting position, took the lead on lap six, and led the remainder of the 35-lap distance unchallenged. The win for the driver of the Commercial Roofing & Sheet Metal No. 83 Bicknell was worth $1,500. Also winning on Novelis / Wheel-A-Way Motorsports Night were new record holder Dale Caswell in the IMCA Modifieds, Dan Williams in the ESDCA Mod Lites, Matt Wetterer in the 4-Cylinder Super Stocks, and Jon Shumway in the 4-Cylinder Enduros.
Young drivers Joe Isabell and Paul Kinney led the 24-car DIRTcar Modified feature starting field down to the green flag from Starter Glenn O’Loughlin with Isabell jumping out to the early lead. Tom Sears was working his way through the top five and took the lead on lap 6 from Isabell. At the halfway point of the 35-lap headliner event, the top five was Sears, brother Tim Sears, Joe Isabel, Alan Johnson, and Kevin Bates.
Alan Johnson was reeling in Sears over the final few laps, but it was to no avail as Sears was long gone. Johnson was forced to settle for second, followed by Kevin Bates, Willy Decker, and Tim Sears. Completing the top ten, it was Kenny Stafford, Joe Isabell, Roy Bresnahan, Dan Vauter, and Jim Witko. The win for Sears was his second of the year and also the second of his career at the Brewerton 1/3-mile oval.
Dale Caswell of West Monroe won his sixth consecutive IMCA Modified 20-lap feature at Brewerton Speedway, a new record for most consecutive wins in the division. Caswell started eleventh and took the lead from rival Kevan Cook on lap 7 enroute to his triumph. Cook was forced to settle for second once again, followed by Rich Keller, Les Hubbard, and Rich Riggs at the finish. Bob Ridgeway led the opening 4 circuits until Cook took control on lap 5.
Dan Williams of Pennellville came from the eleventh starting position in the 20-lap ESDCA Mod Lite feature to win his seventh feature of the 2007 season. Williams took the lead from Justin Chrisafulli on lap 11 enroute to the victory. Tommy Felicia led the opening 5 circuits until Mike Mullen took over for one lap on lap 6. Newcomer Mikey Hay was second, followed by Tim Devendorf, Kevin Doll, and Rocco Leone.
In the 4-Cylinder Super Stock division, Matt Wetterer of Georgetown survived a late race battle for position with Chuck Powelczyk in lapped traffic to take home the 15-lap victory, his second of the season. Wetterer started eighth and took the lead on lap 8 enroute to the victory. Powelczyk had to settle for second, followed by Chad Dupra, Claude Hutchings Jr., and Chris Kranz. Aron Backus led the opening circuit of the event. Jon Shumway won the 20-lap 4-Cylinder Enduro over Josh Herbert, Witt Chilson, Les Baker, and Devon Rookey.
