Par : Martin Bélanger
Cantley, Quebec – Friday June 29, 2007 – Edelweiss was the host of a Syracuse qualifier for the modified class. A 50 lap race was on the schedule, plus a complete race program for the other classes.
Pierre Dagenais took the lead on the start of this important feature. Dagenais even built a great lead on the field of 13 cars. The first 25 laps were done on the green flag until a caution came up on lap 26 when Peter Mantha who was third at this moment had engine. On the restart, Dagenais is able to take another good lead because of two lap cars slow the rest of the field. He never looked back and won his first feature of the year at Edelweiss and his third in a row on three different tracks. Dagenais was followed by Laurent Ladouceur in second place, Lee Ladouceur finished third, Éric Gauvreau et Dave Heaslip completes the top 5.
In the Pro-Stock feature, another race without any caution occured for the second or third time this year. Starting first, Nicolas Vaillant lead all 20 laps to win his first feature of his career. Stéphane Lebrun finishes second, followed by Denis Gauvreau who, complete the podium. Joey Ladouceur and Dave Bissonnette finishes respectively fourth and fifth.
Many cautions happened during the 15 laps feature race in the Semi-Pro class. Everyone thought that Daniel Guindon would win the race but he slowed down on the backstretch in the final lap thinking that the yellow was out for a car that had stopped. This opened the door for Dominic Gauvreau who by the same time wins his second feature of the year. Bruno Boivin finishes second followed by Marc Lalonde in third, Daniel Guindon finally finished fourth and Richard Brady completes the top 5.
Gabriel Mercier grabbed the lead on the start of the 12 laps feature race for the 4 cylinders class. Mercier was able to keep this position until a yellow came out for Scott Dagenais. Martin Bernard takes this opportunity to take the top spot on the restart and goes and win his third race of the season and his second in a row. Yannick Raymond followed him in second and Martin Bigras finished 3e.
The light drizzle that came down on the speedway helped the speedway surface. Pierre Dagenais recorded one of the fastest laps in history of the speedway with a 13.04. It`s a good sign about the condition of the track. Next week, the Semi-Pro will be the headline class because of the Street stock car challenge that regroups 4 tracks including Brighton, Brockville, Cornwall and Edelweiss. Many new cars are expected to be here for this 35 lap race. A complete race program and a demolition derby is also on the schedule.
