BROCKVILLE-The popular Big Block Modifieds will return to the Beast of the East, the Brockville Ontario Speedway for their lone appearance on the fast quarter mile on Tuesday night, July 10th. The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series tour will be joined by the first ever appearance on the Eastern Ontario clay by the Empire State IMCA Modified series for a much anticipated twin bill.
The Big Blocks ran their first ever tour race at the popular bullring last year with an outstanding field of more than 50 cars on hand to compete. Alan Johnson took the win but not before Pat and Danny O Brien gave the local faithful hope of a big upset. Pat ended up second to Johnson when the checkered flag fell on the fourth of July while Danny gave the small block fans lots to cheer about before settling for a solid 7th place showing. The track experimented for one year with running big block Modifieds on a regular basis with Steve Paine ending up tied with Danny O Brien for the track crown. Paine will be one of the big guns to watch as the big guns return north again. Coca-Cola will pick up the sponsorship of the 100 lap main event for the second straight season.
The IMCA Modifieds are much better known in Central New York but many are looking forward to their first attempt at the Brockville speedplant. They'll be joined by some fast Canadian cars coming from the Brighton area for race number five of the Empire State Series. It's one of two trips to Canada that the series will make in 2007. A solid car count is expected with results going towards Superflow Eastern Region Points as well.
Gates will open at 5 pm on Tuesday, July 10th with ASDS Time trails hitting the track around 6:30 pm and heat races scheduled to take the green flag at 7pm. It's the first half of a huge week at the Beast of the East as the ASCS Patriot Sprints bring their traveling road show into Brockville for the second time in 2007 on Saturday, July 14th. |
