Canandaigua, NY – July 2, 2007 – Tom Skibinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR Director
The month of July opens with a bang at Canandaigua Speedway when Ferris Mowers presents America Night on July 7 featuring a full program of the mighty DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks and PureStox. A FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR tops the Saturday show in celebration of the Independence Day holiday.
Race action begins at 7 p.m. with pit gates unlocked at 4 p.m. and grandstand gates swinging open at 5 p.m.
The success of seven-time Big-Block track champion Steve Paine with his new Troyer machine has been evident with four feature wins at the ‘Land of Legends’ to date. Modified mainstays Chuck Bower (1 win) and Charlie Donk (2) are within striking range yet it’s the rise of Modified stars Derrick Podsiadlo, two-time Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman champion Russ Hefti and Pro Stock graduate Chad Homan that have put the lead trio on notice with half the season still to go.
DIRTcar Sportsman Modified action stands as some of the most competitive at the Ontario County Fairgrounds oval with eight winners surfacing in 11 main events. Two of the winners rank highest in the current standings with Paul Guererri clinging to a narrow four-point advantage over Loren Lincoln. A consistent Eric Giguere is focused on collecting his first checkered flag and sits third sandwiched behind by three-time winner Dan Wiesner and Tim Currier (1 win).
Experience counts in the UMP/DIRTcar Street Stock ranks as three-time Canandaigua division champion Mike Welch (2003-05) and reigning points king Blane Smith top the chart after two straight months of head-to-head full-fender competition. Rookie Marc Minutolo has cracked the winner’s circle on two occasions and leads the PureStox points chase opening up a comfortable margin over Corey Hunt and George LaVare Jr.
5-PAK ticket packages continue to be available for all regular events at Canandaigua and sister track Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y. Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket. The regular show admission is just $12 for adults (15-64 yrs.), $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. & older) and $5 for youths (10-14 yrs.) while children 9 yrs. & under are free.
