Sportsman Return To Brewerton For Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series

Brewerton Speedway hosts the opening round in the 2007 Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for Sportsman on July 6 with a $1,000-to-win, 30-lap headline event attracting all the top teams from the Northeast. Race time at the “D-Shaped DIRT Demon” on Horner Automotive Night is set for 7:30pm with a gigantic fireworks display on tap following the final checkered flag.



With the DIRTcar Modifieds having the night off, Sportsman racers are anxious to take center stage on Friday at the popular Route 11 track. Expected to sign in for race competition are Central New York favorites Chris Hile, Rob Hile, Jeremy Pitcher, Shawn Donath, Sammy Reakes IV, Joe Williams, Tim Currier, Jack Meeks, Chris Higgins, Larry Wight and Brandon Sweet.

For the 18th consecutive year DIRTcar Racing will be recognizing an overall Hoosier Tire/Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Champion in the Sportsman division. The 2007 Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series schedule includes 14 extra-distance events with Black Rock Speedway now slated to host its only point show in the fall after rain forced cancellation of the original lid-lifter in April.



Brewerton kicks off the Sportsman tour with the finale coming during Eastern States Weekend at Orange County Fair Speedway in October. Accumulated Series points will once again be added to hometrack bonus points to determine the overall Mr. DIRTcar Champion. The top-12 in final 2006 Mr. DIRTcar points are guaranteed starters for the Brewerton opener while the current '07 overall standings are used to determine guaranteed status in those events held after Labor Day. Drivers eligible to use provisional starting spots are those in positions 13-15 on the respective point charts.



Gates open Friday at 5:30pm with racing beginning at 7:30pm. Admission prices are set at $12 for adults, $5 students 10-14, and children 9 and under are free with a paid adult.
