Car Cruise and FANTastic Five Racing Set for "Bill Kirila Memorial" at Sharon Speedway This Weekend

Car cruise on Friday from 6-9 p.m., FANtastic Five Midseason Championship racing Saturday


HARTFORD, Ohio; July 4, 2007 - Sharon Speedway is set to host back-to-back nights of festivities as part of the "Bill Kirila Memorial" this weekend. The action will kick off on Friday with a car cruise in from 6-9 p.m., and then the FANtastic Five Divisions will take to the 3/8-mile dirt oval on Saturday as part of Midseason Championships night.



In addition to the car cruise, Friday will feature fish and shrimp dinners in the FANtastic Zone from 5-8 p.m. The evening will be packed with fun for everyone. The FANtastic Zone will be filled with a D.J., a variety of vendors and camping is welcome. Vendors include jewelry, cosmetics, laser printing products and log furniture.



With the car cruise complete, the FANtastic Five will take to the dirt on Saturday for the 10th time on Midseason Championships night with double points awarded as part of the first "Bill Kirila Memorial. William Kirila Sr. was vice president of Kirila Contractors, in Brookfield, having worked in the family business since 1958. He was also a part owner of Sharon Speedway. Kirila was instrumental in the success of Sharon Speedway.



With nine races in the books, the FANtastic Five Divisions have seen 185 different drivers from five states (Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York and North Carolina) and three countries (United States, Canada and Australia) compete during regular nights of racing in 2007. In all, 24 different drivers have driven to victory lane this season.



At the midway point, five point leaders are looking to maintain their edge to garner a season championship. Bob Felmlee is on top in the Warren Harley-Davidson Sprints. Brian Swartzlander possesses the top spot in the Gibson-Governor Insurance Modifieds at the midway point. In the Coy Bros. Trucking E-Mod Division, Howard Fraley and Jeff Sharp are currently tied for top honors in the standings. Dan Lewis has a sizeable edge in the Tom's Sewer and Drain Service Pure Stocks. Guy Griffin also holds a convincing point lead in the Limited Sprints.



Following Saturday evening's action, fireworks will light up the sky high above the 3/8-mile oval. The Kids Crew will also meet on Saturday.



Admission to the fun on Friday night is free. Tickets for Saturday evening's show will be available at a price of $11 for adults (16 and older), $5 for kids (12-15) and free for children 11 and younger. Pit passes are $22, and the pit gate opens at 3 p.m.



Saturday will also be a "Two for $2" night. Fans who bring two non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank this Saturday will receive $2 off the price of an adult general admission ticket. A representative will collect the food outside the gate from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. only. Everyone who donates two food items will receive a $2 coupon to present at the ticket window, bringing the price of an adult general admission ticket to just $9. All non-perishable food items are accepted, but canned meats, canned vegetables, tuna and peanut butter are needed most.

Just around the corner for Sharon Speedway will be the World of Outlaws Late Model Series on July 28. Also, just announced is the "NASCAR Duel on the Sharon Speedway Dirt" featuring a $5,000 to win open sprint car feature and a $1,000 to win e-mod feature. The e-mod race will include NASCAR stars Dave Blaney, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and more NASCAR drivers to be confirmed at a later date.
