Linder gets 1st Attica win of 07; Shammo takes 305s; Bores wins lates; Ward claims truck win

Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/07/07

ATTICA, Ohio (Friday, July 6, 2007) - Mike Linder made one of his
sponsors
very happy Friday night at Attica Raceway Park. The Fremont driver
picked up
his first win of the season in a 410 sprint on R&R Auto
Wrecking/Quality
Welding Night. Ironically, Linder piloted a 305 sprint car to victory
at ARP
earlier this season - the car belonging to R&R owner Rich Farmer, who
also
sponsors the Andy James Motorsports 410 sprint.

Millbury's Andy Shammo scored his second win of the season at Attica in
the
305 sprints, while Bellevue's John Bores, promoter at ARP, recorded his

first win in the Fultz Fabrications & Speedshop Late Models and
Sandusky's
Cory Ward picked up second victory in the dirt trucks.

Linder got around early race leader Caleb Griffith on lap 20 and held
off a
hard-charging Greg Wilson for his 7th career Attica victory in the
World
Auto Parts of Huron/Cleveland 410 Sprints.

"I was going to have a hard time getting around Caleb...we were racing
in
the same groove and then he moved down in turn three and I got a run to
the
outside. My hats off to my crew...they have been working so hard in the
shop
and we've been getting better every night out," said Linder beside his
Linder's Speed Equipment/Burns Iron & Metal backed sprint car.

Shammo inherited the lead when Bryan Sebetto crashed into a spun car on
lap
8. Shammo would build a comfortable lead and go on to claim his fourth
career ARP win.

"I hated to see that happen to Bryan...I think we would have put on a
good
show battling for the lead. My hat's off to John Bores and the entire
Attica
staff. They have brought this track back...you can really race hard
here,"
said Shammo beside his Fort Ball Pizza Palace/Matt Tille Enterprises
backed
#48.

Bores grabbed the lead from Bill Hahn on lap six and held off a last
lap
challenge by Mike Marteney for his third career Attica win in the late
model
feature.

"I found a little moisture on the bottom of 1 and 2 and knew I had to
keep
the car straight and get off turn 4 good," said Bores. "I saw Mike
stick his
nose under me on the last lap..I just tried not to spin the tires."

Ward grabbed the lead from Art Ball on lap 2 and held off several
challenges
from Brian Arnold to score his fourth career victory at ARP in the dirt

trucks.

"I was having some problems with the gears, but the truck drove great,"
said
Ward beside his Excuse's Lounge/East Side Cafe backed #18W truck.

In the 30-lap 410 sprint feature, Brandon Martin grabbed the early
lead,
only to see Griffith take the top spot on lap 2 with action halting for
a
Chris Andrews tip-over. Griffith would build a big lead with Linder
moving
into second on lap 3, with Martin, Byron Reed and 11th-starting Wilson
in
tow.

The action would be slowed on lap 16 for a stalled Roger Shammo, with
only
10 cars on the lead lap. The running order was Griffith, Linder,
Martin,
Reed and Dustin Daggett.

Linder would make his winning move exiting turn 4 on lap 20. Griffith
would
try to drive back under in turn 2 but made contact with an infield tire

barrier, collapsing his front axle, ending his fine run. Linder would
continue to rim ride while the action behind him would heat up between
Martin, Wilson, Reed and 12th-starting Mark Keegan. A spat of cautions
would
continue to slow the action, with Linder getting great restarts.

Behind Linder at the checkers were Wilson, Martin, Keegan and Reed.
Wilson
would take home an extra $200 from R&R Auto Wrecking for the
"hard-charger"
award for passing the most cars in the feature.

In the 25-lap 305 sprint feature, Sebetto, who has five victories at
ARP in
2007, would grab the early lead from his pole-starting position.
Shammo,
Matt Ferrell, Cap Henry and Coty Runion would stage a hated battle for
behind. Disaster would strike for Sebetto on lap 8 as he entered lapped

traffic. Bobby Davis made contact with another car, sending him
spinning in
turn 4 right in front of the leader. Sebetto made contact and damaged
his
front end, bringing an end to his night.

Shammo would build a big lead while Henry, Runion, Josh Muntz and
Dustin
Keegan stagged a heated battle behind. With just two laps remaining,
Shammo
continued to lead while Henry and Keegan battled hard for second.
Shammo
would take the checkers over Henry, Keegan, a hard-charging Stuart
Brubaker
and rookie Josh Muntz.

Dustin Dinan took home an extra $100 as the R&R Auto Wrecking
hard-charger,
as he finished 6th from his 14th starting position.

In the 20-lap late model feature, Bill Hahn, Bores and Marteney put on
a
heck of a show for the lead early, with Hahn and Bores trading the top
spot
several times before the first yellow would fly on lap 4. Bores would
take
the lead for good on lap 6, with Hahn, 11th-starter Ernie Haynes,
Marteney
and Randy Scott battling hard right on his bumper.

After a few cautions, the race would go the final 10-laps under green,
with
Bores fighting off several challenges from Marteney. At the checkers,
it was
Bores, Marteney, Haynes, Scott and Larry Kingseed.

Jim Fleming would take home the $50 R&R hard-charger award by virtue of
his
6th place finish from his 17th starting position.

In the 15-lap dirt truck feature, Art Ball would grab the lead but it
would
only last one lap before Ward powered into the top spot. The battle for

second would heat up between Ball, Chuck Roelle, 9th-starter Brian
Arnold
and 12th-starter Shawn Valenti.

Ward continued to lead, but he couldn't shake Arnold and Valenti. With
two
laps to go, Ward lead over Arnold and a closing Ball. At the checkers,
it
was Ward, Arnold, Ball, Steve Endicott and 15th-starter Bob Dible, who
scored the $50 R&R hard-charger award.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, July 13 for UUI
Family
Fun Night with just $10 general admission for adults. The Fultz
Fabrications
& Speedshop Attica Late Models will compete for $1,000 to win with the
305
sprints and dirt trucks also in action.
