Steve Wright has completed a successful 2006/07 season by taking the top honours at the annual Lismore V8 Dirt Modified Association Club presentation night recently where he claimed the overall club championship and open (A Grade) point score honours.
In what has been a less than organised season, as Wright has been forced to borrow an engine from fellow local Mick Santin for the whole season, after his own engine had been somewhat delayed.
“It was an indifferent sort of season and to still manage to take off both the open and club championship point score is something I wasn’t expecting, as I thought I might have been in the top three, but not a win,” Wright expressed.
“The key to my success was simply being there at the finish and remaining consistent, which is what point scores are all about, and my season is proof of that, as I wasn’t always at the front of the field, but I was amongst the top five on just about every night.”
Wright’s highlight of the season was without a doubt his overall victory in the Mr. Modified Series over the Christmas / New Year period, and he was presented with his trophy for winning the Mr. Modified Series at the presentation night.
“To take out the Mr. Modified Series is by far the highlight of my career thus far and something that will stay with me for many seasons to come, as it was also when I took out my first feature race victory, so that was a real buzz,” recalled Wright.
“I know very well that we weren’t one of the favourites heading into the Series but we managed to make a few people stand up and take notice, and once again it was our consistent that gave us the overall win over the three rounds. A number of the leading drivers suffered problems and that enabled me to come through and clean up the scrapes.”
Next season for Wright looks to be in good shape with a brand-new engine on the agenda and there is no doubt that he wants to build on his success from this season just past.
