Ron Wadforth wins the stock-car challenge at Edelweiss Speedway
The Semi-Pro class were the stars last night at Edelweiss for the presentation of the Stock-Car Challenge. Many drivers from other tracks were present for the 35 laps feature.
The best field of cars was on hand for this special event when 25 cars took the green in the feature. Serge Lagacé took the lead on the initial green but Ron Wadforth with a good move takes the lead on Lagacé on the third lap. The first caution of the feature came on lap 8 for Daniel Guindon. On the restart, Lagacé is able to retake the lead on Wadforth and is able to keep the lead for the next eight laps and two other cautions. Wadforth takes back the lead with a good move in turn 1 and 2 on lap 18. The last 17 laps, gave the fans some great battles between the five first positions. Wadforth was able to keep the lead even if he had some great competition from Lagacé and Doug Anderson to win the first ever stock-car challenge. Anderson finishes second, Todd Raabe third, Brian Cross and Lagacé finished, fourth and fifth respectively.
In the modified feature, Eric Gauvreau was able to take a good lead over the field in this caution less feature. But in the last laps of the feature, Gauvreau started to have problems with the front end of his car and Brian McDonald was able to pass Gauvreau in the last lap of the feature to win this race in one of his rare visit at the speedway in 07. Gauvreau finishes second while Laurent Ladouceur completes the podium. Lee Ladouceur and Dave Heaslip finished, fourth and fifth respectively.
It is becoming a habit in the Pro-Stock category. Another wire to wire feature race, gave the fans some good racing. Nicolas Vaillant took the lead for the first 16 laps until he had took a bad decision with a lap car and Joey Ladouceur took this opportunity to take the top spot and wins his third feature of the season. Vaillant finished second and Stéphane Lebrun completes the podium.
Gabriel Mercier grabbed the lead in the 4 cylinders 12 lap feature and is able to keep his position for the first eight laps but with an outside move, Martin Bigras took the lead on lap 9, to win his first ever feature is this class in front of Mercier, Martin Bernard completes the podium in this very good finale.
The first Stock-Car Challenge was a success with the great participation of many drivers from other tracks. The drivers from Brighton Speedway gave the fans a very good show for their first visit at the track. The Empire Super Sprints are in town next week for their first of two visits at Edelweiss. Do not miss this spectacular event and do not forget to arrive early because they attract the biggest crowds of the year.
