Newberrytown, PA (July 11, 2007) – Racing returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday, July 14 when Miller’s Racing Parts along with SSP will present “A Stock Car Summer Vacation” featuring the Super Late Models paying $2,000-to-win for the 25-lap feature event. This marks the return of the Super Late Models for the first time in nearly 20 years to the speedway. The purse exceeding $9,000 pays a minimum of $125 to start.
Also that night, the SSP Limited Late Models will compete in a 25-lap non-point feature paying $1,000-to-win. The purse exceeding $5,000 pays a minimum of $100 to start is sponsored by Miller’s Racing Parts.
The Xtreme Stock Cars & XSC Rookie Rumble will also be in action. The Xtreme Stock Car purse exceeds $1,000 and is sponsored by Superior Homes of Lancaster . The XSC winner will receive $500-to-win. The XSC Rookie Rumble will run a separate race.
The raindate for the event will be Sunday, July 15 with a starting time of 6:00 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m.
Candy Johnston of Duncannon was the name drawn last weekend to receive the “ride of a lifetime” in the Superior Home Race Car Ride-Along with Ray Broderick. She will receive a few laps in the passenger seat of Ray’s Xtreme Stock Car. Every week one ticket will be drawn from the adult general admission tickets to win a ride for the week after.
Last Saturday night found Bud Witmer in victory lane for his first win of the season over Steven Billet and Jake Jones. Kory Sites won his third Street Stock feature of the season and his 50th career in a close battle with Steven Dove. Michael Goodwin bested the Xtreme Stock Car field again in the 30-lap feature event by a car length over Charlie Pensinger and Ray Broderick. Grant Adams won the Four Cylinder Stock Car feature over Ronnie Buck. Joshua Morrow won the 15-lap Legends Cars feature. John Stoll, Jr. picked up the win in the XSC Rookie Rumble race and Butch Richcreek, Jr. won the Susquehanna Recyclers Mini Van Race.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $15.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
The pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
There will be a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. - SSP Competitor's Link Section Added to SSP Website - Let your fans know the latest info on your team! If you're a regular ARDC, Late Model, Street Stock, Xtreme Stock Cars or other regular SSP series competitor and have a website, e-mail the link of your web site to our webmaster at tvr1@comcast.net, so we can include you in this new section.
- Postponed Event from May 27 Rescheduled - The rain-postponed Memorial Day Spectacular from Sunday night, May 27 has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 19. The racing classes include the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars, ARDC Midgets and Legends Cars. The 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature event will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic from Finksburg , Maryland paying $1,200 to the winner. Hoosier Tires will be the only tire permitted on all four corners of the car. Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars only. Both pit and grandstand rainchecks may be used from May 27 at any race during the next three weeks (until Saturday, June 16) or for the race on Sunday, August 19. Since no cars were able to qualify before the rains hit the speedway, new entries for the race on August 19 will be permitted.
- Xtreme Stock Car Points Fund Announced – SSP in pleased to announce a season-ending points fund for the Xtreme Stock Car division paying $300.00 to the champion. The top 10 positions will receive points fund monies. The point fund is sponsored jointly by Superior Homes ( Lancaster , PA ), Erb’s Custom Performance ( Wellsville , PA ) and The Madison Recovery Homes ( York , PA ). These companies will also sponsor the 50-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature during the Miller’s Racing Parts Fall Classic race on October 19 and 20 paying $1,000.00 to the winner.
- Information About “The Outback” Track at SSP – The Outback Track at SSP is still currently under construction for Quarter Midgets, karts and more. The days of operation will be Saturday during the daytime hours. As work continues, the first open practice date has been pushed back to a date to be announced based on the delivery of the clay.
Competitive racing is set to begin after a few practice dates have been completed. The classes/types of cars or karts will be developed during the open practice sessions. Details will continue to be released as they become finalized.
