Iceman O Brien Upsets Tour Stars to Win at Brockville

     Brockville, Ontario, Canada

BROCKVILLE-The weather was hot, the speeds were scorching but Pat O Brien stayed as cool as a cucumber. That paid big dividends for the Kingston driver as he defended Canadian turf scoring his first Super DIRT Car Series Big Block Modified Tour win since 1990 on Tuesday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Almost the entire crowd waited after the race to celebrated with the usually calm iceman, hanging on every word of the post race interview with Tour announcer Shane Andrews.

Tim Fuller was the man to beat on this night after he broke the track record with a sub 14 second lap in qualifying and then started on the pole for the BOB FM Coca Cola 100. Fuller held off early challenges from O Brien and would lead the race until lap 89. Things got interesting when Fuller came up on Frank Cozze who was doing everything he could to stay on the lead lap after getting as high as third in the running order at one point. Cozze would not give way and eventually O Brien boxed Fuller in behind the 44 car and vaulted into first place with 11 laps remaining. The Iceman led the final 11 laps for the big win and a $6,000 pay day before a near capacity crowd. A disgruntled Fuller settled for second in front of Billy Decker, Jimmy Phelps and Brett Hearn. Mike Adderley was the best among Brockville regulars finishing 16th.

The IMCA Modifieds made their first ever appearance at Brockville for an Empire State Series event. Dale Caswell damaged his oil pan in the infield after the heats, but managed to keep the engine running with a rag and duct tape and took the win in the 25 lapper. Bob Banks got close at times but never close enough to challenge Caswell. Aaron Jacobs, Jojo Donato and John Mason were third through fifth respectively.

Brockville Ontario Speedway gets back to action on Saturday night, July 14th with the second appearance of the season by the ASCS Patriot Sprint Cars, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies. Admission is just 12 dollars and as an extra bonus hot dogs will be just a buck apiece. The green flag drops at 7pm.
