Merrittville to Welcome OESN as Presenter of 2nd Annual Lucas Oil Sportsman Shootout

Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/13/07

THOROLD, Ontario (July 12) - When Ontario Environmental Safety Network presents Merrittville Speedway’s Lucas Oil Shoot Out for the Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen Division Saturday July 21st, the 56 lap Sportsmen Main Event will be a unique event.

“The Shoot Out will showcase our local drivers in a very unique way,” relates Merrittville GM Erica Bicknell, “Chad Chevalier’s got the second highest points as runner-up in our Dirt Weekly Racing Series Sportsmen Standings Saturday Nights … but in the Lucas Oil Shootout – he’s leading with the least.”

The Lucas Oil Shootout by DirtTrackDigest.com for both the Sportsmen and 358 Modified Divisions will crown an overall champion – but it will be the driver with the least amount of points not the one with the most that wins.

“Local race fans had never seen anything like it until last year,” informs DirtTrackDigest.com’s Adam Ross, speculating, “as the Shoot Out unfolds … the points should be so close … anyone will have a shot at the title with three different winners in the first three events … local Dirt Racing is what we’re all about – we’re just as excited about the possibilities”

For the Sportsmen it all started at the Humberstone Speedway with a 50 lap event and Don Spatorico came home the winner. A visit to Ohsweken Speedway for the second round saw an impressive win by Mike Bowman who ran the last part of the race with a left front flat tire.

Chad Chevalier won the Genesee Speedway visit – setting the stage for Merrittville Speedway’s July 21st 56 lapper.

The 2007 Lucas Oil Sportsmen Shootout concludes at Ransomville Speedway August 10th

Prior to the Series Start at Humberstone, drivers were required to pick a home track in preparation for the Lucas Oil Cup Event at the Brighton Speedway – Friday September 21st where the Top 20 in 2007 Lucas Oil Shootout Points are guaranteed starters. The driver that wins that event will bring the cup home to their track and that track will host a special Lucas Oil Sportsmen Event in 2008.
