Ed MacPherson Construction and Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment to Second Unique Dash for Cash at Merrittville During Lucas Oil 358 Shootout

Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/13/07

Thorold, Ontario (July 12) - When Lucas Oil presents Merrittville Speedway’s Shootout for the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modifieds Saturday July 14th, the Jerry Winger 56 lap Memorial will be a unique event.

So unique that going into Merrittville Speedway’s event hosted by Merrittville Speedway’s Reunion Committee – Ransomville winner Scott Kerwin leads the point standings with the least amount of points. Rookie second generation driver Jeff McGinnis sits in second while defending Shootout Champion Scott Wood is third.

2007 is Merrittville Speedway’s 56th season and an exciting addition to the celebration finds one of it’s oldest friends joining one of it’s newest to present a Dash for Cash as unique as the Lucas Oil Main Event itself.

Ed MacPherson Construction and Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment have once again joined together to present a Dash for Cash of all Dashes.

The three heat winners will be eligible for the event and each winner will pick another driver from that heat in a front stretch draw.

“Sandy MacPherson came up with the exciting format last year,” reveals (Merrittville) GM Erica Bicknell, “the heat winners will start … and so will another driver in just about any finishing position … we have to thank both Ed MacPherson and Philbrick for their generosity and creativity.”

The Dash for Cash will again take on a new twist when the green flag drops as Sandy MacPherson will draw a random number from 1 – 6 and the number that is drawn will receive the lion’s share of the $675 purse.

The 6 drivers will not know what number is drawn until after the event. When Richie Vinson pulled into Victory Lane last season, no one knew what would happen – Vinson drew number 1 – meaning that he would get the top award – but this year is anyone’s guess!

The position that is picked will receive $250 and it could be anyone from first to sixth. The remainder of the breakdown is $ 150, $100, $75, $50 and $50.

“It is bound to make an exciting addition to our 56th Anniversary Celebration,” adds Reunion Committee Chairman Rick Kavanagh, “our hats off to them again.”

Merrittville Speedway’s visit of the Lucas Oil 358 Modified Shoot Out presented by Dirttrackdigest.com is the third stop of the 5 race series.

Similar to last season, Scott Kerwin won the opener at Ransomville Speedway while Tim Jones was the most recent winner at Genesee Speedway. Wood has fired three wins at Merrittville to date in 2007 and all but had a repeat at Genesee only to fall victim to a late race flat tire.

Merrittville regular Adam Ferri and Ransomville’s Jon Miller round out the top 5 in the point standings.

Sandy MacPherson has enjoyed quite a storied career at Merrittville Speedway – first as a driver then an official and he has been a long-time sponsor of Stock Car Race Teams and most recently the Kart Junior 2 Division and the Kelley-Winger Sportsmanship Award.

With his son Dave – the Wall of Fame Member has also been instrumental in developing the Kart Racing careers of his two grandsons – Dillon and Teagan – who both proudly are racing the 21Jr today. Dave even got behind the wheel probably for the first time himself last season when he entered the 100 lap Konzelmann Estate Winery Enduro.

Tim Tallman has a similar history – although in a much shorter time frame, having been a long-time supporter of Merrittville Speedway’s Kart Club and other programs at the Speedway . While his sons Andy and Mitchell have enjoyed success Tuesday Nights in Kart Racing and Andy now in his second year of Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lite Racing.

Andy continues to stay involved Tuesday Nights as an Official. Mitchell still runs his Philbrick Farm & Garden # 8 now in the Ed MacPherson Construction Junior 2 Division.
