THE JET TAKES OFF AT WILLIAMS GROVE

MECHANICSBURG, PA – Jeff Shepard established himself as a contender for this week’s World of Outlaws Summer Nationals with an impressive victory in the 25-lap sprint car feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.

Bob Bennett started on the pole and took the early lead as Shepard, who started 12th, was working his way through the pack.

Fred Rahmer came from the 10th starting spot to sixth on the first lap and was up to third by lap three. He took the lead from Bennett with an inside move exiting the second corner on lap nine and appeared to be headed for his first win of 2007 at Williams Grove.

Shepard, however, had other ideas.

The Jet moved into the runnerup spot on lap eleven and began to chase the leader.

Rahmer, working the middle of the racetrack, was no match for Shepard who drove by on the outside on lap 17.

Once in front Shepard pulled away to a 3.37 margin of victory over Rahmer.

The win was the 9th of Shepard’s career at Williams Grove and first of the season.

Rahmer finished just ahead of Brian Montieth, who once again turned in a spectacular passing performance after starting 18th. Montieth earned another $200 Nitro-to-Go Hard Charger award for passing 15 cars and was closing on the leader at the finish.

T. J. Stutts and Chad Layton completed the top five.

Lance Deweae, Mark Smith, Ryan Bohlke, Don Kreitz, Jr. and Bennett finished in positions six through ten respectively.

Heats for the 28 sprint cars in competition were won by Bennett, Chris Meleason and Bohlke. Mike Erdley won the consolation race.

Pat Cannon picked up his third win of the season in the limited (358 c.i.) sprint feature.

Cannon started 12th, took the lead from J. R. Fry on lap 14, then cruised to the victory.

Fry, Cory Haas, Dave Calaman and Stewart Smith rounded out the top five.

Adrian Shaffer,. Fry, Smith and Chad Myers won heats for the 38 limited (358 c.i.) sprints in the pit area. Mike Walter and Nate Hammaker won the consolation races.

Williams Grove Speedway will host the Cleveland Brothers Summer nationals sanctioned by the World of Outlaws from July 19-21.
