Despite being in the midst of one of the driest summers on record in the region, Little Valley Speedway had the indignity of suffering its second rainout of the season on Saturday, July 14th. The opening show on Sunday, May 27th suffered a similar fate.
The evening started under threatening skies, but after the first super stock heat, the skies opened up one lap into the second heat. Though the rain was brief, it was hard enough to necessitate a lengthy process to refurbish the racing surface. Just as the track was coming in, a second shower came through and signaled the end of the night.
Track officials announced that the May 27th rainout would be made up on Friday, September 7th, the day before the scheduled $5,000 to win Super Late Model event on Saturday, September 8th. Fans holding rain checks from the July 14th rainout may use them for either of the next two events ONLY. Those events are the Sunday, August 26th show which will feature the Empire Super Sprints, the Super Stocks, the E-Mods, and the Street Stocks, or the September 7th make-up date, which will have the Super Late Models, racing for $3,000 to win, the Super Stocks vying for $1,000 first place money, the E-Mods, looking for $650 for first, and the Street Stocks, competing for a $500 winner’s check.
At the present time, there are no plans to re-schedule the second rainout, but track officials will be looking into any possibilities to make that up as well. With so many races scheduled around the region in all divisions, it could be a daunting task, but track officials will keep their options open. Little Valley would like to thank all the race teams and fans who turned out under threatening conditions on July 14th, and we look forward to seeing you at future events.
