Sagi Visits Victory Lane in Super Late Models at SSP; Richwine, Wampler and Pietrak Also Pick Up Wins on Saturday Night

Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/17/07

Newberrytown, PA (July 14, 2007) – A Stock Car Summer Vacation on Saturday night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Alan Sagi in victory lane with Jason Covert and Kirk Ryan cose behind in second and third. Scott Richwine won the SSP Late Model feature event over Carl Billet and Jake Jones. Matt Wampler won the Xtreme Stock Car feature and Dustin Pietrak won the XSC Rookie Rumble.

In the 25-lap Super Late Model feature event, Jason Covert jumped out to the early lead with heavy traffic following him. An early caution for two blown engines at the same time on lap 3 for Jim Bernheisel and Scott Lebarron slowed the field. On the restart, Jason Covert and Kirk Ryan battled side-by-side lap- after-lap swapping the lead on laps 7, 8, 9 and 10. On the tenth circuit, Ryan finally took command of the lead. Scott Richwine spun in turn three on lap 12 to bring out the caution and slowed the field. On the restart, Ryan continued to battle with Covert. In the meantime, Alan Sagi, who started tenth, moved his way into third and passed both Ryan and Covert on lap 18 for the lead. Sagi went on to take the checkered over Covert and Ryan. Dan Stone and Brian Booze finished fourth and fifth respectively. Matt Lux, Coleby Frye, Mike Lupfer, Billy Wampler and Jim Yoder rounded out the top ten.

In the 25-lap SSP Late Model feature event, Billy Wampler took the lead from his pole position on the start. By the third lap, Scott Richwine, doing double duty in the two Late Model features, took the lead from Wampler. As Richwine continued to lead lap-after-lap with a few caution periods sprinkled in between, Carl Billet moved his way through the field from an eighth place starting spot into the second spot behind Richwine on the 16th lap. A caution on lap 21 allowed Billet to close up on the rear bumper of Richwine, but Richwine was able to keep the lead and pickup his fourth win of the season at SSP. Bilet settled for second. Jake Jones got around Wampler on the last lap for third. Wampler held onto fourth wan Charles Potts finished fifth. Bud Barton, Bud Witmer, Larry Baer, Steven Billet and Al Shawver finised sixth through tenth respectively.

In the 30-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature, Adam Smith jumped out to the early lead with heavy traffic behind him for the first few laps. At the halfway point, Matt Wampler moved within striking distance of Smith. On lap 16, Wampler dove to the low side in turn three and took the lead from Smith. Not far behind was Jason Failor, Ray Broderick, and Mike Goodwin. The four car battle continued for second as the laps wound down towards the finish. A caution for a four car accident coming out of turn four with 23 laps complete slowed the field. On the restart, Wampler continued to hold onto the lead. Over the final 5 laps, Goodwin and Broderick battled side-by-side, allowing Wampler to extend his lead. Wampler, on his 29th birthday, picked up the feature win followed by Goodwin, Ray Broderick, Jason Failor and Donnie Broderick. Completing the top ten were Chris Heller, Charlie Pensinger, Larry Landis, Adam Smith and Bill Fulton.

Dustin Pietrak won the 15-lap XSC Rookie Rumble over Matt Sowers and Chad Lemmon. Matt Adams and Steve Ramsey rounded out the top five.
