Elbridge, NY – July 16, 2007 – By Tom Skibinski, Rolling Wheels Raceway Park PR Director
The ‘Fast Track’ at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park is ready to re-open on July 22 as Budweiser presents a DIRTcar Racing tripleheader featuring the mighty Big-Block Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds and UMP Street Stocks in a Caprara Bros. Outdoor Toy Store Mr. DIRTcar Super Series event.
The first qualifying heat goes to the starting line at 7 p.m. with pit gates opening at 4 o’clock and grandstand seating beginning at 5 p.m. Adult general admission tickets are $12 each, Senior Citizens (65 yrs. + over) $10, Students (10-14 yrs) $5 and Children (9 yrs. + under) Free.
“A Five Star event was on our schedule until last week,” noted RWR General Manager Jack Deery. “A recent rain-out in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series required this coming Sunday as the make-up date for a traditional doubleheader in Canada. A number of teams were planning to run Rolling Wheels so we dropped that part of the show to give those drivers following the Five Star Series every opportunity to participate in all five events.”
A make-up date for the F.X. Caprara Car Companies-Dig Safely New York ‘Five-Star’ Series event at Rolling Wheels is being determined at this time and will be announced in the coming week.
A stellar field of ground-pounding Big-Block stars from around the area will still be taking to the ultra-fast 5/8-mile Elbridge oval on Sunday looking to qualify for the 35-lap Modified main. Brett Hearn (1 win) tops the current Rolling Wheels point standings followed by Jimmy Phelps, Tim Fuller, Gary Tomkins (1) and Matt Sheppard. Billy Decker won the RWR season-opener in May.
Look for weekend warriors like early season winners Derrick Podsiadlo, Vince Vitale, Kevin Bates and Steve Hulsizer along with Chad Phelps, Dave Rauscher and Shannon Whaley to fill the void each in search of their first career RWR Big-Block win.
Twin 25-lappers will be run for the top touring Street Stock and Sportsman qualifiers.
Adam DePuy leads the Caprara Bros. Outdoor Toy Store Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super Series standings as he remains undefeated with pair of 30-lap tour victories recorded at Black Rock Speedway in April and Cayuga County Fair Speedway on July 5. On the heels of DePuy (210 pts) is Darl Ellis (185), Scott Smith (177), Nathan Peckham (155) and Dave Marcuccilli (154).
Rolling Wheels has staged just one Sportsman event in 2007, and its opening race winner Chris Hile that stands ahead of Jipp Ortiz, Paul Guererri, Chris Higgins, Joe Williams and Eric Giguere on the early season points chart.
Rolling Wheels Raceway is located between Auburn and Elbridge, New York, on Route 5. The track can easily be accessed using Exit 40 of the New York State Thruway.
