A-Verdi Storage Containers King of Central New York Update:
Barney Holds Slim Advantage in A-Verdi King of CNY Standings
Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (July 18, 2007)- The ASCS Patriot Season, as well as the King of CNY Series, is already past the half-way point this season; while Hebing leads the overall standings, Jason Barney holds on to a very slim lead in the CNY standings over “Cobra”.
After the fourth leg of the A-Verdi Storage Containers King of Central New York Seven-Race Series, The Constantia, NY driver holds a slim two-point advantage over Chuck Hebing, headed into the only ASCS Patriot event of the 2007 Season at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Even though Barney leads, it is Hebing who has a major advantage, at least in sprint cars, heading into the event after the ASCS Patriots complete a three-week break.
Hebing has scored two wins in just three ASCS Patriot events at the Weedsport, NY facility. “Cobra” won back-to-back years in 2004 and 2005.
While Sunday, July 29, will be the first sprint car race at the high-banked 3/8-mile for Barney, he has fared well there in his modified days. The driver of the No. 87 won four sportsman-modified events in a one year span back in 1996 and 1997. Barney has only run six sprint car races this year and will be itching to get back in front of “Cobra”, the reason for having an ‘X’ through a snake on the side of his Maxim mount.
Aside from the top two in the standings, there are three others that can take over the point lead at CCFS, and another four competitors who are within striking distance for the crown.
Jared Zimbardi is 30 points back of Hebing in the overall standings, but he is just 26 points back in the King of CNY Standings. A solid run at Cayuga County would help him in both standings.
The Breen Brothers: Blake and Bobby, find themselves currently tied for fourth at 534 points. While Blake has a better average finish, his younger brother Bobby has a pair of fourth place finishes at their closest facilities to home.
Fresh off a pair of top-three finishes at Canandaigua and Rolling Wheels, Jessica Zemken is back into the mix, currently sixth in points. Zemken needs to keep her No. 1z near the front in the final three shows to move into the top-five, especially with Don Adamczyk and Ray Preston both just six points behind her.
Dave Wickham, a driver from Central New York, is ninth in the standings and will likely remain in a top-10 spot to make sure he gets his slice of the point fund. Justin Barger, Jeff Cook, and Gary Troutman will duke it out for the 10th position, with Barger currently hanging on to the position.
The Cayuga County event is one of the highlights of the season, as A-Verdi Storage Containers sponsors the entire night of racing, the King of Central New York, as well as the Central New York Mini Sprints, who will be the under card on the night. The folks from A-Verdi will be on hand to distribute plenty of free stuff to fans.
A point fund in excess of $3,000 will be distributed to the top-10 in the final standings of the King of CNY Series. For more information about these events, as well as all of the others with the ASCS Patriots, visit www.ASCSracing.com or www.ASCSpatriotsprints.com.
