Empire Super Sprints Makes a Return to the Fonda Speedway after 12 Years:
$2,000 Awaits the Winner of the 4th Annual Earl Halaquist Memorial.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – It’s been since October 15, 1994 that the stars and cars of the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) and the tour brought to you by Jacobs Motorsports has appeared at the famed Fonda Speedway which is know as the “Track of Champions”. This Saturday night a little history will be made as it marks the 4th annual Earl Halaquist Memorial with $2,000 going to the winner of the 25 lap A-Main event.
Fonda is rich in tradition and it’s only fitting that the event will honor the 2000 National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee. The Halaquist family lives in nearby Bainbridge, N.Y. and will have many family members on hand to celebrate the evening. The six-time United Racing Club champion (a record that still stands), Halaquist amassed a total of 53 feature wins with the historic club which still ranks him fifth on the all-time win list.
The 2007 racing season for ESS has been filled with exciting events in both the United States and Canada and Fonda fans can expect a big field of the winged machines in the pits. Heading the list will be current point leader Steve Poirier, second in points and a last name rich in Fonda lore, Jeff VanDusen, two-time champion Lance Yonge, defending champion Alain Bergeron, Jeff Cook, Michael Parent, Justin Barger and Mike Stelter. These stars will be joined by local favorites Cory Sparks, Jessica Zemken, John Karklin Jr., Warren Alexson and Jami Russell.
The Car Mate Custom Built Trailer heat events will kick off the night’s action followed by he Gabriel’s IGA Markets/Walt’s Hobby Dash and the KSE Racing Products B-Main. All that will lead up to the $2,000 to win, 25 lap A-Main where the first Fonda ESS winner will be etched in over 12 years.
It will be an exciting night as the Fonda big block modifieds will also be a part of the action. ESS and the “Track of Champions”, it has been a 12 year wait but a wait that will be excitement guaranteed!!
