Newberrytown, PA (July 15, 2007) – On Saturday, July 21, it will be Christmas in July at the Susquehanna Speedway Park with Stock Car Saturday Night. Santa Claus will make his annual summer trek to SSP for the famous toy give-away. All children will have the opportunity to meet with Santa as he will also have some gifts for them. Santa will also be giving complimentary bus rides around the track and through the pits beginning at 6:00 p.m. Fabulous racing action will feature the Late Models, ARDC Midgets, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and Women on Wheels Stock Cars. The Midgets return for a rare Saturday night appearance at SSP to the popular Stock Car Saturday Night Series.
The raindate for the event will be Sunday, July 22 with a starting time of 6:00 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m.
Candy Johnston of Duncannon was the name drawn last weekend to receive the “ride of a lifetime” in the Superior Home Race Car Ride-Along with Ray Broderick. She will receive a few laps in the passenger seat of Ray’s Xtreme Stock Car. Every week one ticket will be drawn from the adult general admission tickets to win a ride for the week after.
Last Saturday night, the Stock Car Summer Vacation Special found Alan Sagi in victory lane with Jason Covert and Kirk Ryan close behind in second and third in the Super Late Model 25-lap feature event. Scott Richwine won the SSP Late Model feature event over Carl Billet and Jake Jones. Matt Wampler won the Xtreme Stock Car feature and Dustin Pietrak won the XSC Rookie Rumble.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
The pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
There will be a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. - SSP Competitor's Link Section Added to SSP Website - Let your fans know the latest info on your team! If you're a regular ARDC, Late Model, Street Stock, Xtreme Stock Cars or other regular SSP series competitor and have a website, e-mail the link of your web site to our webmaster at tvr1@comcast.net, so we can include you in this new section.
- Postponed Event from May 27 Rescheduled - The rain-postponed Memorial Day Spectacular from Sunday night, May 27 has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 19. The racing classes include the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars, ARDC Midgets and Legends Cars. The 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature event will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic from Finksburg , Maryland paying $1,200 to the winner. Hoosier Tires will be the only tire permitted on all four corners of the car. Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars only. Both pit and grandstand rainchecks may be used from May 27 at any race during the next three weeks (until Saturday, June 16) or for the race on Sunday, August 19. Since no cars were able to qualify before the rains hit the speedway, new entries for the race on August 19 will be permitted.
- Xtreme Stock Car Points Fund Announced – SSP in pleased to announce a season-ending points fund for the Xtreme Stock Car division paying $300.00 to the champion. The top 10 positions will receive points fund monies. The point fund is sponsored jointly by Superior Homes ( Lancaster , PA ), Erb’s Custom Performance ( Wellsville , PA ) and The Madison Recovery Homes ( York , PA ). These companies will also sponsor the 50-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature during the Miller’s Racing Parts Fall Classic race on October 19 and 20 paying $1,000.00 to the winner.
- Information About “The Outback” Track at SSP – The Outback Track at SSP is still currently under construction for Quarter Midgets, karts and more. The days of operation will be Saturday during the daytime hours. As work continues, the first open practice date has been pushed back to a date to be announced based on the delivery of the clay.
Competitive racing is set to begin after a few practice dates have been completed. The classes/types of cars or karts will be developed during the open practice sessions. Details will continue to be released as they become finalized.
