THOROLD, Ontario (July 19) - The month of July will close at Merrittville Speedway July 28th and what a night Modern Corporation’s Annual Trucker Show ‘N Shine Night at the Thorold DIRT-sanctioned oval has become.
When race fans enter the grandstand area they will surely marvel at some of the trucks on display as well as Vintage Cars as Merrittville Speedway’s Reunion Committee presentation has joined the program due to July 14th’s rainout..
“It’s going to make for an awesome night,” relates (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “some of the finest looking trucks … immaculately restored Vintage Cars and the 56 lap Jerry Winger Memorial Lucas Oil shootout for 38 Modifieds … there’s definitely something for everyone.”
In the maze of Big Rigs and Vintage Cars – the Lucas Oil open Wheel Lite Team Cars of Shawn Sliter and Jamie Gilbert will also be part of the Modern Display.
Both the Reunion Night and Truck Night are highlights of each season and it’s always a tough choice for best appearing truck. All of the entries do laps on the Speedway with the fans voting for their favorite in a contest conducted by Merrittville’s announcing team of Erik Tomas and Clint Geoffrey.
“You’ve got to salute them,” relates GM Erica Bicknell, “ the trucks work during the week in some of the worst conditions … they sure take pride in their trucks though … to keep them looking so good … especially when they come to the track.”
Racing and the Trucking Industry seem to go hand in hand as many drivers, officials and fans are involved in both.
“Ed MacPherson Construction will no doubt have one of their trucks on display,” adds Merrittville Speedway Reunion Committee Chairman Rick Kavanagh, “and together with Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment will be presenting the Cub Cadet Clash for 358 Modifieds … and to top off the night we’ll have our 2007 L. St. Amand Enterprises Wall of Fame Inductions too.”
Each 358 Modified Heat Winner will join the event in addition to another car from each heat that the winner picks via a draw. It gets as unique as the Lucas Oil Shootout itself after that as once the event starts … Sandy MacPherson will pick via another draw – which spot out of the six that will receive the lion’s share of the purse.
Another highlight of the night will be the selection of the Grand Marshall for the Toolneeds Advance Auto Parts Big block Super Dirt Series Trevor Wilkens Memorial coming up quickly – Monday August 6th.
In the weeks leading up to Modern Night July 28th, race fans have been given ballots as they enter and 4 finalists are picked to be in the finals. Completed Ballots can be entered into the contest at the Novelty Trailer just inside the front gate.
