THURSDAY: DONNY SCHATZ WINS SUMMER NATIONALS
MECHANICSBURG, PA Donny Schatz showed the Pennsylvania fans why
he is the number one sprint car driver in the country with a victory in
the 25-lap feature on opening night of the Cleveland Brothers Summer
nationals presented by Advance Auto parts Thursday at Williams Grove
Speedway.
Jason Sides started on the pole, took the lead at the start and set
the pace with the rest of the field glued to the outside cushion.
Schatz, who started fifth, was determined to make the inside lane
work and began to advance to the front. He took third place from Brian
Montieth at the half-way point and drove by Jeff Shepard one lap later.
It took Schatz two more laps to dispose of Sides, but he was hardly
home free.
Danny Lasoski was on the move and took the runnerup spot from Sides
on lap 20.
Although he caught Schatz in the closing stages, he was unable to
make a bid for the lead.
Schatz scored his third victory this week and pushed his earnings
during that span to $85,000.
Lasoski rode home a solid second with Sides third.
Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point leader Jeff Shepard finished fourth and
Joey Saldana, who started ninth, completed the top five.
Montieth, Daryn Pittman, Tim Shaffer, Paul McMahan and Greg Hodnett
finished in positions six through ten respectively.
Schatz out-qualified the 52-car field with a lap of 17.084.
Heats were won by Sides, Tim Shaffer, Montieth and Dewease.
The Crane Cam Dash was won by Sides.
T. J. Stutts won the B-main and Jason Martin claimed the C.
Schatz also remained undefeated at Williams Grove in 2007 after
sweeping both nights of the May Outlaw races.
