RANDY WEST TOPS ALL IN URC'S RETURN TO BIG DIAMOND FRIDAY NIGHT
After missing a visit in 2006, the United Racing Company sprint cars
returned to the Big Diamond Raceway on Friday night. A large crowd and
a strong field of twenty-nine BAR'S LEAKS URC sprint cars turned out
for the event. At the drop of the checker flag, Randy West of
Boyertown, PA took the win and became the twelfth different URC feature
winner in fourteenth events in 2007. West took the lead on lap four
from Scott Pursell and ran uncontested to the victory worth $2,000 to
the feature winner.
Three URC heat race events took place on the Valley Forge INC Sprint
Series events with victories going to Scott Pursell, Mark Bitner and
Jason Clauss as Curt Michael took the win in the Don Ott "B" Main.
In the twenty-five lap URC feature, Scott Pursell set the early pace
with Mark Bitner in second and Randy West in third. West moved into
second on lap three and immediately challenged Pursell for the lead. AS
the field passed on lap four, West was the new leader. On lap six, the
caution was displayed when Joey Biasi spun in turn one.
On the restart, West ran to hide from the rest of the field as Pursell,
Clauss and Bitner followed. At the halfway mark, West, Clauss,
Pursell, Michael Carber and Mark Bitner made up the top five. One lap
later, Carber moved into third and tried to reel in second place runner
Jason Clauss. Another driver on a mission was the youthful J. J. Grasso
who moved into the top five on lap eighteen. West had pretty much
checked out had a comfortable lead as the white flag was displayed.
For the final lap and through the last turn, West delivered a flawless
run driving the Elmer Stoltzfus owned URC sprint car. Jason Clauss
finished second followed by Michael Carber, J.J. Grasso and Mark Bitner.
