Gressman, Hull, and Babcock Win on Anniversary Night
(Lima, OH) Limaland Motorsports Park celebrated its 72nd Anniversary on Friday night and the usual suspects in each division battled for the big checks and commemorative belt buckles. By night's end, a new chapter was written in the storied history of the famous quarter-mile bullring.
Terry Hull, by virtue of the invert, found himself on the pole for the Professional Computer Company Modified feature. Hull had a spirited battle with Andy Holderman first and then Gary Richards. Holderman appeared to suffer mechanical woes by mid-race while Hull found himself down on horsepower due to a dropped cylinder. But, the lack of horsepower appeared to help Hull in controlling his tire spin and he won convincingly.
Tim Allison grabbed the lead from polesitter, Ron Blair, on lap one of the EFI-NRA Sprint Invaders feature race. Allison appeared to have the car to beat until Mike Brecht slid by on the low side just past half way. The final 11 laps saw the emergence of Phil Gressman and Mike Dussel. Gressman cleared traffic quickly and set out after Brecht and Allison. Dussel took a couple laps longer to work his way past and eventually ran out of time. Gressman passed Brecht with 7 laps to go and was never challenged again.
Jeff Babcock said he was having a typical Jeff Babcock year; win some - wreck some. Regardless, his fellow Bud Thunderstock competitors know it's never good when Babcock starts on the front. From the drop of the green, Babcock was the car to beat as he distanced himself from the intense battle for second between Tony Anderson and Earnie Woodard. The buckle went to Babcock while Anderson, the current point leader, finished with a solid second place run.
Your next chance to be part of the celebration of 72 years of racing action is next week when Limaland Motorsports Park welcomes the lady Thunderstock drivers back for their second shootout of the year. Rain won round one, but the ladies are ready to do battle along with the Professional Computer Company Modifieds and Elwer Fence Sprints on Ohio's Quarter-Mile of Thunder. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing on America's premier quarter-mile begins at 7:30 p.m.
