Weedsport, NY – July 23, 2007 – By Tom Skibinski, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR Director
The month of July comes to a fast closing at Cayuga County Fair Speedway when A-Verdi Storage Container presents the ASCS Patriot Sprint Group for their lone appearance of the year in Weedsport on July 29.
The final Sunday show of the month at the home of DIRTcar Racing NorthEast also includes a full program of qualifying and feature events for Sportsman Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, Battlekarz, Mini Sprints and Mod Lites. Preliminary heats are slated to start at 7 o'clock with pit gates unlocked at 4 p.m. and the main grandstands opening at 5 o’clock.
The ASCS Patriot season, as well as the A-Verdi Storage Containers King of Central New York Series, is already past the halfway point this season with Chuck Hebing leading the overall standings and Jason Barney holding on to a very slim lead over “Cobra” on the CNY chart. Hebing has scored two wins in just three ASCS Patriot events at the Weedsport, NY facility, winning back-to-back A-Mains in 2004 and ‘05.
After the fourth leg of the King of CNY 7-race series, Barney holds a slim two-point advantage over Hebing heading to Cayuga County. While Sunday will be the first sprint car race at the high-banked 3/8-miler for Barney, he has fared well at CCFS in the past winning four Sportsman Modified events from 1996-97. He has only run six sprint car races this year and will be itching to get back in front of “Cobra,” the reason for having an ‘X’ through a snake on the side of his Maxim mount.
Points leader Shawn Donath (3 wins) leads the Sportsman Modifieds back into action at The Port, with early season winners Joe Williams (1) and Jeremy Pitcher (2) the closest challengers in ‘07. In the full-fender ranks, Nick Rizzo heads Jim Wallace and UMP Northeast front-runner Dave Mannise in DIRTcar Street Stock competition while June’s ‘Nan-way Newsletter Driver of the Month’ Bill Werner tops the BattleKarz points chart.
Throughout the season unique 5-PAK ticket packages will be available for all regular events at Cayuga County and sister track Canandaigua Speedway. Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket. The regular show admission is just $12 for adults (15-64 yrs.), $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. & older) and $5 for youths (10-14 yrs.) while children 9 yrs. & under are free.
