Newberrytown, PA (July 21, 2007) – Christmas in July for Stock Car Saturday night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Carl Billet taking the Late Model win over Jake Jones. Paul Morgan returned to victory lane in the Street Stock division for the fourth time in six races. Thomas Johns won the Xtreme Stock Car feature and Steve Johns won the XSC Rookie Rumble. Kendra Knaub picked up her fourth win in the Women On Wheels Stock Cars with a last lap pass over Karen Hawthorne. Tracy Readinger was victorious over Ryan Smith and P.J. Gargiulo in the open wheel ARDC Midget feature event.
In the 20-lap Late Model feature event, youngster Cam Zeigler lead the first three laps beforep bobbling and giving the lead up to Jake Jones on a lap three restart. Jones started eighth but restated second behind Zeigler after an eight car pileup on the third lap removed a lot of front runners between Zeigler and Jones. Jones continued to lead the way until veteran driver, Carl Billet completed a pass for the lead on the 18th lap and held on for his fourth win of the season. Jones finished second with Billy Wampler in a close third. Cam Zeigler finished a strong fourth with Sam Leonard, Jr. finally finding some luck on his side this time to finish fifth. Bob Scott, Jr., Carl Graves, Kyle Saylor, Gene Wrightstone and Scott Richwine completed the top ten.
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature event, Bryan Shue led the first lap and relinquished the lead to Dustin Hollinger on the next go-around. Hollinger continued to lead until the 9th lap when Paul Morgan overtook him. Morgan started tenth and went on to pick up his fourth win of the season at SSP. Excited on the last lap found Gary Johnston penalized to rear of the lead lap after spinning second place runner Todd Bowersox on the last lap coming to the checkered. Craig Morgan ended up finishing second, followed by Dustin Hollinger, Wes Alleman and Kevin Sigler. Rounding out the top ten were Scott Thunberg, Joe Whiteley, George Eash, Joey Hoffer and Jenn Scott.
The 20-lap ARDC Midget feature began with Stephanie Stevens jumping out to the early lead for the first two laps. The caution flew for a two car spin in turn two. On the restart, Tracy Readinger took the lead on the third circuit from Stevens from an initial fifth place starting spot. Readinger never looked back as the race continued non-stop for the remainder of the race. Following Readinger across the line was a tight pack with Ryan Smith finishing second and P.J. Gargiulo in third. Eric Heydenreich and Andy Martin finished fourth and fifth respectively. Completing the top ten were Nick Wean, Randy Monroe, Greg Robinson, Steve Lenig and Ray Bull.
In the 30-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature, Adam Smith took the early lead and held the spot for the first four laps. Ray Broderick was the next to take the top spots. After a few cautions, Pensinger challenged Broderick and finally took the lead on the 14th lap, but Broderick battled back and retook the top spot on the 16th lap. As the race wound down towards the end, Thomas Johns moved from his 18th place starting spot on the initial start to second place on the 28th lap. On the 29th lap, Johns took the lead from Broderick and held on for the win. Broderick finished second, followed by Charlie Pensinger, Sam Rial and Larry Landis. Matt Wampler actually finished in fifth but was penalized to the back of the lead lap at the finish for spinning Pensinger after the checkered on the cool down lap. Donnie Broderick, Tim Hahn, Adam Smith, Les Scrivens, Jr. and Bill Fulton completed the top ten.
Steve Johns won the 15-lap XSC Rookie Rumble over Brian Rehbein and Adam Doll. Chad Smith and Brian Lomman completed the top five.
Kendra Knaub won the 15-lap Women on Wheels Stock Car feature with an exciting last lap pass of Karen Hawthorne. Hawthorne led the first 14 circuits, but had to settle for a strong second place. Kim Flannagan, Beth Buhrman and Renae Luckenbaugh rounded out the top five.
Candy Johnston took the ride of her life as she was the winner for the Superior Home Race Car Ride-Along with Ray Broderick. He received a few laps in the passenger seat of Ray’s Xtreme Stock Car. Every week one ticket will be drawn from the adult general admission tickets to win a ride for the week after. This week’s winner for the ride-along on Saturday, July 28 is Missy Hamilton from Dover .
On Saturday, July 28, the Clean Technologies Young Guns Shooutout returns along with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Classic Cars and Mini Vans. The EMMR Vintage Cars will also be on display and taking a few exhibition laps to show off their cars from the past. The raindate will be Sunday, July 29 with the start time one hour earlier at 6:00 p.m.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
The pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
