JOEY BIASI UPSETS URC FOR FIRST CAREER WIN IN JUST HIS FIFTH START SATURDAY NIGHT AT SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY
SELINSGROVE, PA . . . . Joey Biasi of Mary-D, PA stormed the Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night for his fifth ever start in the BAR'S LEAKS URC Sprint Series and came home the winner of the twenty-five lap CnB Mushroom feature event, earning a hefty $2,200 for the victory. It was certainly no easy win as Biasi started on the outside row then dropped back to fourth by the mid-point of the race. In the final ten laps, Biasi stormed back to the front passing Davey Sammons and Robbie Stillwaggon. Then on the final lap and off the last turn, Biasi squeezed between the outside wall and the familiar "Pink Panther" #73 driven by Kramer Williamson, to take the lead and the win. Biasi led less then 500 feet of the race, but he was surely leading when it counted, at the drop of the checker flag. Runner-up Kramer Williamson, a icon in the world of sprint car racing in Central Pennsylvania, ran to victory lane to congratulate Biasi for his outstanding ride. The crowd greeted both Biasi and Williamson with a standing ovation. For Biasi, it will be a night long remembered, and for Williamson, he re-confirms his stature as a URC Champion Driver and a Champion Individual.
A field of twenty-six URC sprint cars took part in the program that is part of the Valley Forge INC Pennsylvania Sprint Series. In the opening heat race, Kramer Williamson of Palmyra, PA took the win, setting a new track record of 2:28:316 for an eight lap event at Selinsgrove. Joey Biasi and Robbie Stillwaggon won the second and third heats as Tim Hogue was the winner of the Don Ott "B" Main
In the 25 lap feature event, Kramer Williamson earned the pole position as a result of winning the first heat race. At the drop of the green flag, Williamson bolted into turn one followed by Joey Biasi and Robbie Stillwaggon. One lap later, Stillwaggon moved into second and now Davey Sammons was on a charge. By lap ten, Sammons was third and setting to challenge for the runner-up spot. Also on a charge was Michael Carber as he worked his way to the top five.
At the halfway point of the race, Williamson had a backstretch lead over Stillwaggon, Sammons, Biasi and Carber. By lap eighteen, Biasi found a burst of energy and wrestled third away from Sammons and two laps later, Biasi moved into second, dropping Stillwaggon to third.
With less the five laps to go, Biasi took off like a rocket and at the same time, it appeared the Williamson sprinter was easing off his blistering pace. As the flagman displayed the two laps to go sign, Biasi was just three car lengths behind Williamson. With the white flag waiving, Biasi was setting up for the challenge. Going into turns one and two, Biasi moved to the far outside groove and was looking for the right time to make the pass. Going into the final turn, Biasi went far to the outside and charging off turn four, he attempted to squeeze by Williamson. Biasi tagged the homestretch wall forcing some contact between his car and Williamson's. Both Biasi and Williamson were able to recover as they continued their run to the checker flag. Biasi edged out the veteran for his first ever URC win.
Biasi became the thirteenth different feature winner in fifteen URC events this season, with Curt Michael and Michael Carber being the only two repeat winners. For Biasi, he also became the seventh first time winner with URC this season. Finishing second was Kramer Williamson, Robbie Stillwaggon, Michael Carber and Davey Sammons delivered a solid performance, earning a strong fifth place finish.
