Mother Nature Cooperated For Back To Back Race Nights

Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/23/07

Bouncing back from a battle with Mother Nature the past few weeks, Brighton Speedway had a successful back to back racing weekend!! The first of the Holiday Inn Trenton Five Dollar Fridays provided fans with spectacles galore as the Minivans, 4 Wheelers, Mister Signz Pure Stock, Quinte Towing Stingers and a 35 lap Endurance Race hit the 1/3 mile clay oval. The highlight of the show was the first ever MiniVan Feature race. The seven vehicles lined up on the back straight away loaded like family vehicles. Couches, luggage and even a washing machine were strapped to some, and a tent trailer was being pulled by another. From the moment the green flag flew, FAF Inc representative Tim Bradley in the #31 “Sprint” Minivan took control of the race and dodged the debris to make his way to Victory Lane. The minivans will be back again on August 31st as the kick off to the Labour Day Classic Weekend.

The Deerhaven Farm and Garden Spectator One-on One Racing and Extreme Lawn Mower Races added to the 40 Lap Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified and 30 lap Brighton Automotive Pro Stock Triple Crown events on Saturday , July 21st. Justin Ramsay, 2006 Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Champion, took the one on one racing in his every day Honda, despite exchanging paint and taking a few dings in the bumper during the elimination and final races. “I think I might have to turn that one into my next racer!” Ramsay stated after taking the checker and showing his pit crew the bumper he lost in the race. “ She was running sweet, and seemed to like the track. We will have to see what next season brings for me and my cars.”

Worrying more about next week than next year is current Canadian Modified Champion, Shawn Gregory(#1) of Trenton. He, and his colleague Andrew Hennessy (#87), both met up with the wall, in separate incidents and will spend hours in the shop trying to get the cars back in working order. It was a tough break for Gregory who took the most recent feature in the division and had started the night with a qualifying win. Taking the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified Feature win, literally by a bumper in the final run up the straightaway, was #11 Dan Ferguson of Picton, who nudged ahead of #25 Greg Belyea under the flag stand.

The next race event is the Northumberland/Belleville/Quinte West Tire presentation of 10 Pin Enduro Car Bowling added to the regular classes, including the second of the three Comp 4 Triple Crown events. It is also the night for the drivers to say thank you as part of both Sponsor and Fan Appreciation Night . Green flag flies at 7:00pm on Saturday July 28th.
