WISTE SWEEPS MIDWEST MODIFIED ACTION

By Bill Nelson

July 21st, 2007

Spring Valley Mn

Another picture perfect evening fell over Deer Creek Speedway as the IRA Sprint cars invaded the speedway on Justice Brothers Night at the Speedway. Also sponsoring the nights racing activities were Valley Featherlite and Bobcat of Rochester. The US Army was also on hand with a rock wall for the kids to climb on during the racing action. Something for everyone to see or do on this great night of racing action in Southern Minnesota.

With a freshly groomed racing surface the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds pulled onto the speedway for their 18-lap $300 to win feature event. Bobby Swanson pulled out to the early lead with AJ Wiste and Albert Wytaske racing for second. Chris Adams fell into the fourth spot looking to move his way forward. With four completed Wiste took control of second and took off after Swanson. Two laps later Wiste was glued to the bumper of Swanson while Bryan Hernandez, Wytaske, Adams and Brandon Davis all were tightly grouped up behind the leaders. Hernandez took control of third leaving Wytaske and Davis racing for third. Up front Wiste pulled alongside of Swanson for the lead as they circled the track in formation for three laps until Wiste took control of the race. A restart with six to go saw Wiste leading with Davis and Hernandez racing for second, each taking their turns for three laps until Hernandez took control of the spot. Wiste looked good up front holding on for his first career WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event along with the clean sweep for winning the heat race earlier. The other heat race wins went to Davis and Kenny Wytaske.

Kurt Davis led lap the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Cars out of lap one as the winged warriers flew around the track at over 105mph in the early stages of this race. Donny Goeden and Mike Reinke were swapping third spot behind Scott Neitzel in second. Goeden and Reinke continued their battle as they put Neitzel back into fourth. Reinke quickly took control of second and set out after the leader. With seven laps completed Reinke took over the lead just as they entered lapped traffic. Scott Biertzer came alive and quickly moved into second after running fifth for the early laps. Two laps later Reinke had a full straight lead as he diced through the slower traffic with cars running high and low Reinke was able to make the 02 machine hookup anywhere on the track. With fourteen completed Reinke made a mistake that cost him the win on the night. While trying to clear lap traffic Reinke made contact with the rear wheel of a slower machine spinning him down to the infield. Biertzer held the point on the restart with Goeden now in second ahead of Brian Kristan, Davis and Neitzel in the top five. Goeden started coming on strong for the next few laps as most of the crowd started watching Reinke dice his way through the back half of the field and with nineteen down he was already inside the top ten again. Goeden made light contact with the wall with eleven laps left after catching up to the leader. Four laps later a red flag came out for a light roll coming out of turn two by Gary DeWall. During the slowing down Goeden touched the flipped machine after being cut off by another driver ending his night. Also the Davis machine pulled pitside with a flat tire. On the restart with five to go Biertzer led with Kristan in second, Travis Whitney now in third after sitting just outside the top five most of the feature. Reinke was able work into the fourth position during the last five circuits followed home by Neitzel. Biertzer took home his first ever IRA Feature win and the $2500 first place check with Kristan and Whitney in the top three.

The final race of the night was the $1000 to win EZ Fabricating USRA Modified event. Tim Donlinger started on the outside of the front row and jumped into the early lead with Mike Spaulding and Kelly Shryock side by side in second. A determined Brad Waits sat in fourth. Shryock took over second shortly with Spaulding left to fend off Waits. With twenty to go Waits sat in third as Brian Shaw raced with Spaulding for fourth. Sixteen laps left and Shaw’s run ended with a spin in turn three bringing out the only caution of the night. After a called off restart Donlinger led the race with Shryock and Waits side by side for second. Again Shryock was able to gain control but Waits was a rocket up high on the speedway. The top three stayed close for the final nine circuits of the speedway with Waits getting tremendous runs on the top side only to be pinched off by Shryock before he could get any closer than the rear bumper. Donlinger looked good in a new machine and held on for his first win of the season with Shryock and Waits rounding out the top three.
