The World of Outlaws Sprint Series aimed to please and that they did at Ohsweken Speedway in front of a capacity crowd.
Jason Sides topped his trip to Canada off by making the pass on Sam Hafertepe on lap 13 for the lead and held of late race challenges by Jac Haudenschild and Donny Schatz to win the Six Nations Showdown.
In a press conference after the 30 lap A-Main Sides, Haudenschild and Schatz talked to the media about the event and how they enjoyed there first trip to Ohsweken Speedway and hope to return in 2008.
Jac Haudenschild commented how the speedway reminded him of Sharon Speedway in Ohio and noted that he liked the wide track giving the high powered sprinters alot of room to race.
Danny Lasoski broke the all-time standing track record by laying down a solid 12.944 seconds. Danny Lasoski, Steve Kinser and Joey Saldana were the only 3 driver to break into the 12 second bracket.
Donny Schatz and Sam Hafertepe had a very exciting battle in the dash as they pulled off slide job after slide job swapping the lead for 3 or 4 laps with Donny Schatz coming out on the winning end.
Although Danny Lasoski set the new track record and was the Quick Timer, he failed to advance with a qualify spot via the heat race when he was hung up behind lap car Fred Cade. Lasoski would later dominate the B-Main to transfer to the A-Main.
Jason Meyers took a hard ride into the turn 1 catch fence. Meyers emerged from his ride okay but none too happy.
Glenn Styres and the Ohsweken Speedway staff put on one of the best World of Outlaw shows I have been to. Everything went off quick and smoothly. The racing surface held up very well and the addition of the new seating, lights and catch fence are impressive. The event was topped off a laser light show, fireworks and an impressive sound system in the infield.
The Mini Stock put on one heck of a show as well. Kelly Hallett walked away with the 1st feature and $500. At the conclusion of the race they fans were polled and they chose to invert the finishing order of the 1st feature and run a 15 minute timed event.
358 Modified racer Adam Ferri, put up an additional $50 to the race winners purse if Hallett could win the 2nd event from the rear of the field. Unfortunately, Hallett never made it to the lead as he suffered a mechanical issue but he did come pretty close to the front.
A definate A+ event.
